CITY COMMISSIONER NOMINATING
PETITIONS
ARE NOW AVAILABLE AT THE CITY CLERK’S OFFICE
Four commission seats will be filled at the City Election to be held on Tuesday, November 5, 2024.
Eligibility for Office of City Commissioner: Any qualified voter who has been a resident of the City of Imlay City for one (1) year and is not in default thereto.
Nominating petitions shall be signed by not less than 25, nor more than 50 qualified voters of the City. Petitions must be returned to the City Clerk’s Office by 4 p.m. on Tuesday, July 23, 2024.
Petition signers are reminded that no person shall sign their name to a greater number of petitions for the office than four–the number of offices available.
Section 3.3 of the City Charter specifies that all City officers shall run on a non-partisan basis. Section 3.5 specifies that the City Commission shall consist of seven members, one of whom shall be elected by the Commission as the City Mayor.
Commission Terms–the three top vote recipients shall have a four-year term while the fourth top vote recipient will serve a two-year term. The two-year term commissioner seat will expire in November 2026 and the four-year term commissioner seats will expire in November 2028.
Section 3.7 states that the City Clerk will accept only nomination petitions which conform with the form provided by the Clerk’s Office. Petition forms are available Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday 8 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. and Wednesday 1 p.m.- 4:30 p.m. at the City Hall, 150 N Main Street, Imlay City, MI 48444.
