Jaxon Szlaga, Jerry Schurig, Cam Bourdeau, Manny Goldstein Nolan Roszczewski and Jacob Fuller helped the Almont golf team to a state-qualifying performance at last week’s regional.

TRI-CITY AREA — The Almont boys’ golf team tied for second place at a Division 3 regional on Tuesday, May 28.

Washtenaw Golf Club, in Ypsilanti, is where the action unfolded.

Lansing Catholic (333) won the team title that day. Almont and Ann Arbor Greenhills (336) shared second place honors.

Those three schools plus the three lowest individuals not on those teams advance to the Division 3 state finals this Friday and Saturday. Katke Golf Course, on the campus of Ferris State University in Big Rapids, is where the tournament takes place.

University Liggett (345), Notre Dame Prep (349), Leslie (355), Ann Arbor Gabriel Richard (358), Bath (363), Corunna (371), Richmond and Stockbridge (373 each), Durand (375), Ovid-Elsie (381), Laingsburg (389), Perry (400), Charyl Stockwell Academy (406), Marine City (408) and Imlay City (461) held down spots four through 18 when the final standings were announced.

Clawson also competed but did not field a a complete squad.

Manny Goldstein led Almont that day. He posted a 78 over 18 holes.

Jacob Fuller (82) registered the next best Almont output. They were backed by Cam Bourdeau (84) and Nolan Roszczewski (92).

For Imlay City, Anthony Chippewa was low with a 105. The Spartans also counted Cory Hall’s 106, Matthew Webb’s 122 and Gonzalo Zepeda’s 128.
