Gayle Johnson, age 80, formerly of Imlay City, Michigan, died Saturday, June 1, 2024 at Independence Village Waterstone Senior Living of Oxford, MI. Gayle Lucille Welch was born May 15, 1944 in Bowling Green, Kentucky. She grew up in Bowling Greene, KY. Gayle and her family moved to the Detroit, MI area where she attended Detroit Southeastern High School. She married Gary K. Johnson on November 27, 1971 in Fife Lake, Michigan. Gayle and Gary moved to the Imlay City area in 1975. She was preceded in death by her husband, Gary, on October 30, 2017. Gayle attended Lapeer County Vo-Tech School where she earned her certification as a Nurse’s Assistant.

She was a Self-Employed Nurse’s Assistant and ran a Professional Foster Care Home. Early in Gayle’s career she was employed as a Sales Representative by A&M Office Supply in Imlay City, MI and a Bookkeeper for Foamade in Royal Oak, MI. Gayle had previously attended Imlay City Assembly of God Church. She was instrumental in forming a Christian ministry at Independence Village Oxford Senior Living.

Gayle is survived by: sons: James Craig Johnson of Walled Lake, MI and Gary Keith Johnson II of Louisville, KY; daughters: Robin Kemp of Marlette, MI and JoEllyn (John) Gutherie of Grand Blanc, MI; her sister-in-law Anne (Rich) Vogue of Fife Lake, MI; and brother, Lanny Bell of Peru, Indiana. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Kyle (Jessica), Michael, Kaylea, Grace, Hunter, Dawn Marie, Angela Star; Leeanna, Joshua and Katrina; several great-grandchildren; and her niece, Katina (Chuck) Everding.

She was preceded in death by: her husband, Gary, and her mother Mary.

The funeral service will be held 3:00 p.m., Wednesday, June 5, 2024 at Muir Brothers Funeral Home of Imlay City, 225 N. Main Street, Imlay City, MI. Pastor Randy Williams will officiate. Interment will take place 9:00 a.m., Thursday, June 6, 2024 at Great Lakes National Cemetery, 4200 Belford Rd., Holly, MI.

The family will be available for visitation 1-3 p.m., Wednesday, June 5 at Muir Brothers Funeral Home of Imlay City.
