ALMONT — The Almont boys’ track squad claimed a second last Saturday at a Division 3 regional hosted by Stockbridge High School.

Detroit Voyageur (137 points) won the team title that day. They were followed by Almont (128.5 points), Stockbridge (90), Charyl Stockwell Academy (81), Burton Atherton (45), Jalen Rose Leadership Academy (39), Durand (37), Flint New Standard Academy (20), Communication Media Arts (19), Detroit Community (18.5), Detroit Loyola (13), Burton Bendle (12) plus Arts and Technology Academy (10).

The top-two placewinners in each event, plus anyone who equals or bests a state set time, height or distance advances to Division 3 state finals Saturday, June 1 in Kent City.

Matthew Bacholzky, long jump, 20 feet 3 1/4 inches; and Chase Battani, 100-meter dash, 11.47 seconds; led Almont with individual event first.

The Almont 800 relay of Tim Miller, Cole Walton, Nolan Maxlow and Bacholzky also prevailed. They were timed in 1:33.25.

Battani, pole vault, 13 feet; and Bacholzky, 400-meter dash, 52.48 seconds; gave Almont seconds.

The Almont 1600 relay of Adam SaintOnge, Walton, Maxlow and Bacholzky ranked second as well. They registered a 3:39.59 clocking en route.

Battani, 110-meter hurdles, 16.0 seconds; provided Almont with a third. His effort proved quick enough to advance to the upcoming state meet time-wise.

Maxlow, 400 dash, 53.7 seconds; and Colton Grzyb, 3200-meter run, 11:34.68; secured Almont’s other individual event thirds.

The Almont 400 (Eric Haddon, Brody Corneau, Walton and Miller) and 3200 (Jacob Biolchini, Gavin Campbell, Grzyb and SaintOnge) placed third as well. They were timed in 46.56 seconds and 9:06.33, respectively.

Maxlow, high jump, 5 feet 7 inches; Dustin Claeys, discus, 106 feet 10 inches; Miller, 200-meter dash, 23.92 seconds; and Battani, 300 hurdles, 43.78 seconds; furnished Almont’s fourths.

SaintOnge, 800-meter run, 2:17.26; and Grzyb, 1600 run, 5:06.05; managed Almont’s fifths.

Braedon Carlson, discus, 106 feet; Corneau, 110-meter hurdles, 16.69 seconds; Biolchini, 800 run, 2:24.56; and Benjamin Kline, 3200-meter run, 12:32.8; gave Almont outright sixths.

Walton, high jump, 5 feet 4 inches; contributed a two-way tie for a sixth to Almont’s cause.

Carlson, shot put, 37 feet 1/2 inch; rounded out the list of Almont placewinners with a seventh.
