Rodger William “Will” Shutter, age 82, a resident of Imlay City and formerly of Almont and Houghton Lake, passed away May 9, 2024, at his home surrounded by his beloved family. He was born October 17, 1941, in Detroit, the son of Henry and Edna (Schmid) Shutter. He graduated from Centerline High School in 1959. He served his country in the United States Army National Guard. Rodger married his sweetheart Darlene Joyce “Dolly” Moran on November 4, 1961, at St. Ann Catholic Church in Warren. They lived in Almont where they raised their family on a farm, which got them all involved in 4-H, with animals and gardening. He retired from General Motors as an illustrator in 1999. Rodger enjoyed wildlife, being outdoors, hunting and fishing, walking on his hunting camp and euchre games. He built birdhouses, loved woodworking and was an all around “handyman.” Special moments he loved to take in were sunsets and sunrises on Houghton Lake. He was a member of Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church in Houghton Lake and also an active member in the Knights of Columbus Counsel 6548 and Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Imlay City.

He is survived by his beloved wife Darlene Joyce “Dolly” Shutter of Imlay City, loving children Debra (John) Thompson of North Branch, Tim (Tara) Shutter of Brown City; his grandchildren Joshua, Samantha (Andrew), TJ, Brandon Richard, John and Brandon Lee; his great-grandchildren Baylee Grace, Quinto and Freya.

He was preceded in death by his beloved son David Henry, his twin Richard, siblings Roy, Gary R, and parents.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 15, 2024, from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. A military honor guard will be held at 5 p.m. A funeral luncheon will follow the service and be held at the funeral home.

A Funeral Mass will be held on Thursday at 11 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 700 Maple Vista St., Imlay City, MI 48444. He will lie in state at church starting at 10 a.m. Be sure to share a fond memory of Rodger at his memorial page at
