Dorothy Wiegersma, age 87, of Imlay City, MI died Friday, March 29, 2024, at Stonegate Health Campus of Lapeer, MI. Dorothy Marie Gagnon was born August 1, 1936, in Romeo, MI. She is the daughter of the late Levi and the late Clara (Eliott) Gagnon. Dorothy grew up in Romeo, MI. She attended Rochester schools. She married Chester Wiegersma on June 23, 1956 in Imlay City, MI. Dorothy has lived in the Imlay City, MI area since the mid 1950s. She was preceded in death by her husband, Chester, on October 29, 2003.

She was a homemaker, raising her family.

Dorothy was a member of West Goodland United Methodist Church and attended several local churches. She volunteered at church and helped with the funeral luncheons. Dorothy would frequently visit her elderly shut-in lady friends. Dorothy enjoyed listening to and donating to WMPC radio. While her children were younger, she was a Girl Scout leader and an active participant in several 4H clubs with her children. Dorothy was also a dedicated Red Cross volunteer for many years assisting with blood drives. She enjoyed vegetable and flower gardening.

She is survived by her daughters, Leisa (George) Spurgis of Imlay City, Angela (Derrell) Cox of Waycross, GA and Darla (Daniel) Sowders of Imlay City; and sons, Chester “Levi” (Brenda) Wiegersma of Kingman, AZ and Gregory (Diane) Wiegersma of Marlette, MI. Dorothy is also survived by her brother, John Paul Gagnon of Gaylord, MI; grandchildren, Chelsey Kearney and nine additional grand-children; and five great-grandchildren.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, Chester Wiegersma; grandson, Seth Ryan Cox; and her eight siblings.

A memorial is being planned for a later date.

Arrangements were entrusted to Muir Brothers Funeral Home of Imlay City, 225 N. Main Street, Imlay City, MI.
