Popular club baskets to be judged and auctioned

The Lapeer County 4-H auction will be held Saturday, April 13.

LAPEER CO. — The 38th Annual 4-H Fundraiser Auction Lapeer County 4-H will be held on Saturday April 13, 2024, at The Lapeer Center Building.

The event is free and open to the public starting with a silent auction, doors open at 8 a.m. and graduated bid closings start at 9 a.m. A live auction is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m.

The Lapeer County 4-H Horse Committee will be hosting a pancake breakfast fundraiser from 8 a.m-10 a.m, in the Lincoln Room at the Lapeer Center Building. Proceeds from the pancake breakfast go directly to the Horse Committee to help support the Horse program.

Lunch concessions will be available from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and benefit the Moo Crew Dairy Club. Items that will be up for bid include donations from many local, state, and national businesses.

There is a large variety of items ranging from tickets to the Detroit Tigers, breakfast and fishing for six at Hunters Creek Club, one week of camp at Michigan Christian Youth Camp, Fall Getaway at Champagne Chalet, gym memberships, restaurant gift cards, legal services, trees, gravel, golf packages, hotel stays, health and beauty services, collectibles and so much more.

A crowd favorite tends to be the club baskets. Clubs throughout the county decide on a basket theme and then club members contribute items to the basket. Club baskets are judged based on creativity and usability and the top three scoring baskets are sold in the live auction, while the others are sold during the silent auction. Some of the club basket themes this year include Traveling, Michigan Made, Box of Rocks (great for the Rockhound), Homesteading, and more.

For the second year, there will be a baked goods silent auction with baked favorites from Club members, parents, and volunteers.

Sarah Griffin, 4-H Program Coordinator stated, “The baked goods table was new last year and was a big hit, so we are looking forward to offering it again this year.”

The 38th annual event is the main financial support for Lapeer County 4-H programs. Lapeer County 4-H Youth Programs provide a wide variety of opportunities for positive youth development.

4-H is an amazing organization where our young people can learn true life skills such as leadership, citizenship and community through innovative programs and hands-on learning experiences.

During the 2022-2023 program year, over 2,400 youth in Lapeer County were reached through various forms of educational programming including traditional 4-H clubs, activities, school enrichment programs and events.

The goal is to keep youth curious and encourage them to explore their interests while building life skills. 4-H also offers scholarships to 4-H camps, workshops, state and national conferences, and college scholarships.

A 31st Annual Celebrity Autographed Items Auction will be held the prior evening on Friday April 12, 2024 at The Lapeer Center; doors open at 5 p.m.

This event will feature over 400 autographed items such as balls, books, cards, posters, and photographs.
