ALMONT — Almont gave New Haven all they could handle and then some, falling by a 38-30 scoreboard count in a Division 3 girls’ district basketball battle last Friday night.

Capac High School is where the game was contested.

With the outcome, New Haven goes to 15-3 overall. Almont sees an 8-16 campaign draw to a close.

In Friday’s battle, Almont took an 8-6 edge after one quarter was over with.

New Haven then bounced back with a 6-3 second half advantage, going up 12-11 at the halftime break.

When the action resumed, New Haven struck with a 9-8 third quarter advantage. That left the Rockets ahead 21-19 with 24 minutes gone.

New Haven then outscored Almont 17-11 over the final eight minutes of play, pulling out a 38-30 victory.

For Almont, Lydia LaCavera led the way with a 17-point performance. She drained a triple along the way.

Allison Williams (five, including a trifecta) supplied the next highest Almont point total. The Raiders also had Gabby Carlson (four) along with Natalia Radisavljevic and Rachael Johnson (two each) reach the scoring column.

LaCavera (12), Genesis Fisher (six) and Radisavljevic five) provided the top Almont rebound outputs.

Johnson (four) amassed the highest Almont steal total.

Almont also received three assists apiece from Johnson and Carlson.
