Ernst M. Faigle, 81, of Dryden, peacefully joined his beloved wife in heaven the evening of Thursday, February 15, 2024, surrounded by family at McLaren Lapeer Region Hospital. “Ernie/Dad/ Mark/Bro” was born April 13, 1942, in Cincinnati, OH, the son of Ernst and Iris (Gudgel) Faigle. He was raised in Ohio, Kentucky, and Illinois before settling in Michigan, where he graduated high school in Birmingham, and earned his degree in Chemistry from Adrian College. Enlisting shortly after graduation, Ernie honorably served the country in the US Navy on the USS Richard B. Anderson, earning the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal with One Bronze Star, and the National Defense Service Medal. He then served additional years in the Naval Reserves, Army Reserves, and Air Force Reserves.

Upon returning from his tour in Vietnam, Ernie completed his Master’s Degree in Education from Eastern Michigan University. There he met his cherished wife, Evelyn, and settled in Dryden, where they raised two sons. At the time of her passing in 2013, they had been married for almost 45 years.

His diverse resume includes early years spent as a teacher, professor, coach, and chemist with the majority of his career as an automotive engineer and was responsible for the development of over 70 patents related to vehicle occupant safety systems and restraint. After retirement, Ernie was a first responder and hazardous spill consultant for the Dryden Fire Department and a health inspector for Lapeer County. He enjoyed spending time outdoors, boats, tractors, motorcycles, cars and trucks.

Ernie is survived by his two loving sons, Michael, of Tulsa, OK, and Jason, of Dallas, TX; two grandchildren, Harlee and Bailee; his brother, Gary, of Birmingham, MI; several nieces and nephews; and many friends and neighbors in the local community.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Fisher House Michigan, PO Box 130466, Ann Arbor, Michigan, 48113, a not-for-profit organization assisting Veterans and their families.

A Memorial Service will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, March 15, 2024, at Muir Brothers Funeral Home in Almont, Michigan.

Visitation will begin at 10 a.m., and a Celebration of Life will follow the Service.
