Imlay City’s Conner Wildie (top) and Dominic D’Ambrosio (bottom) met in the 138-pound title match at Saturday’s Div. 3 district.

TRI-CITY AREA — The Imlay City wrestling team qualified five grapplers to this Saturday’s Division 3 regional in Hazel Park.

They earned the right to compete there with top-four weight class finishes last Saturday at a district it hosted.

Dominic D’Ambrosio led Imlay City with a first that day. D’Ambrosio reached the 138-pound title encounter where he picked up a 20-3 victory over teammate Conner Wildie.

Tanner Land provided Imlay City with a second as well. Land gained admittance to the 120-pound championship bout where he fell 14-4 to Yale’s Landon Sopha.

James Johnson added a fourth to Imlay City’s cause as did Travis Dupont. Johnson concluded his stint at 113 pounds when he was pinned by Notre Dame Prep’s Joey Aiello with 2:28 gone and Dupont wrapped up 144-pound action with a 7-1 loss to Lakeville’s Jon Huggler.

Almont also participated at Saturday’s district, but did not secure any placewinning performances.
