Monroe “Moe” Murphy, Sr., age 89, of Dryden, MI, died Wednesday, January 17, 2024, at Dryden, MI. Monroe Thomas Murphy was born July 31, 1934, in Royal Oak, MI. He is the son of the late John and the late Jenny (Fenlon) Murphy. Moe grew up in Romeo, MI. He attended Romeo High School up to the 10th grade. Later in life, Moe return to school and in 2018 he received his high school diploma. Moe proudly served in the United States Navy from 1951-1955 during the Korean War. He married Elizabeth Mulholland on December 3, 1955. He was preceded by his wife, Elizabeth, in 1983. In 1995, Moe married Shirley Lee. Shirley passed away in 2014. Moe lived in Romeo until moving to Dryden in 2000.

He was employed as an Auto Mechanic by General Motors Tech Center in Warren, MI, for 25 years before retiring in 1995. While employed by GM, Moe traveled all over the United States trouble shooting engine problems. Moe owned and operated a Marathon Gas Station in Romeo, MI for more than 10 years. Moe was a member of the McVicar Veteran of Foreign Wars (VFW) Hall in Romeo, MI. He loved his family dearly. Moe enjoyed farming, knew all about all kinds of tractors, and owned a farm in Marlette.

Moe is survived by his daughters, Sally (Tim) Idalski of Comstock Park, MI and Yvonne (David) Meyers of Imlay City, MI; sons, John (Debbie) Murphy of Clinton Township, MI, Monroe (Cindy) Murphy of Girdler, KY, David (Leisa) Murphy of Capac, MI and Paul Murphy of Armada, MI; his sister, Anna (Harold) Schwartz of Marine City, MI; and his step-daughter, Marilyn (Richard) Miller. He is also survived by 21 grandchildren, 31 great grandchildren, and 3 great great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wives, Elizabeth Ann Murphy and Shirley Murphy; son, Theodore Murphy; his twin sister, Marlene Fletcher; sisters, Betty Buzzel, Natalie See, and Barbara Toton; his brothers, Donald Murphy, Allen Murphy, Jack Murphy, and Doug Murphy; his grandchildren: Robert Murphy, Johnny Murphy and Megan Murphy; and daughters-in-law, Suzanne Murphy, Karen Murphy, and Connie Murphy.

The funeral was held Tuesday, January 23, 2024, at Muir Brothers Funeral Home of Imlay City, 225 N. Main Street, Imlay City, MI. Rev. Fr. Mike Gawlowski, pastor of St. John the Evangelist Church in Allenton officiated. Interment followed at McCafferty Cemetery.
