Police; family seeking information on whereabouts

DRYDEN TWP. — Local authorities and family members of a Dryden Township teenager are asking for the public’s help once again.

On January 2, 2024, at 11:30 a.m., the Dryden Township Police Department responded to Joy Road in Dryden Township for a report of a voluntary runaway.

In a press release issued Monday morning, the Dryden Township Police Department stated, “Nathan John Baughman (Date of birth 7-8-2006—17 years old) had left a note indicating he was running away from home.

When parents could not locate him, they called police for assistance.

The initial investigation revealed that Nathan had left the home sometime during the early morning hours and quite likely was not in the immediate area.

Nonetheless an area search was conducted by the Dryden Township Police Department. When he was not located, he was immediately put into the Michigan Law Enforcement Information Network as missing.

According to police, Nathan had previously been reported in April 2023 as a voluntary missing runaway to the Dryden Township Police Department.

He was located five days after being reported by the Dryden Township Police Department with assistance from the Monroe County Sheriff’s Department.

The Monroe County Sheriffs Department was able to follow up and check an area near the Ohio border locating Nathan at that time. He was then safely returned to family.

The police department press release went on to say, “Currently, Nathan was headed in an unknown direction of travel from his residence.

“Nathan may be headed south in the direction he went the last time he left home. Nathan took a few basic things with him including a backpack, blanket, and some cash. He does not have his phone in his possession.

“The incident remains under investigation. The Dryden Township Police Department has reached out to various outside agencies for assistance in this matter in attempts to locate Nathan.”

Police ask anyone who may have information regarding the whereabouts of Nathan Baughman to contact them at 810-796-2271 or Lapeer County Central Dispatch at 810-667-0292.

A similar plea was put out on Facebook last week by Baughman’s mother, Jennifer who said, “Our son Nathan John Baughman ran away sometime between late Monday night and early Tuesday morning. (January 1-2). He is on foot. He left his ID here, his wallet along with his cell phone. He took his quilt, but no coat and no gloves that we see are missing. He is 5’6/5’7 roughly 140 lbs. Thin build. Dark blonde/light brown hair, blue eyes, some facial hair. (He no longer has braces.) Nate is autistic, with severe social anxiety, and has been off all his medication since running away.”

Nathan’s mother said, “He’s possibly wearing a black hoodie with black or gray sweat pants and snow boots, with a bag or backpack. It is too cold for him to be outside; maybe he’s in an outbuilding or a barn nearby? If anyone has any information please message me or contact the Dryden Police Department. We are very worried for his safety and well being.”
