Kathleen “Kathy” Mary Lyscas, 59, of Imlay City, MI passed away on Friday, December 22, 2023, after a two-year battle with cancer. Kathy passed comfortably at home surrounded by the love of her family. Kathy was born in Jackson, MI on March 10, 1964, to parents Edward and Rosemary Day.

Kathy was raised in Farmington, MI and moved around metro Detroit for many years before settling down and building her dream home in Imlay City, MI in 1999.

Kathy met her first husband, James Kopins and married August 24, 1985. Together Kathy and Jim had 2 sons, Joseph and Jacob Kopins. Unfortunately, Jim passed away on February 3, 1989, due to a chronic illness.

Kathy then met her second husband, Henry Lyscas. Henry and Kathy wed September 19, 1992. Together they had a daughter, Brenna, and a son, Samuel, and became a family of six.

Kathy was a proud stay at home mom, raising four children before she began working as a substitute school cook to occupy her time after all of her children became school aged. Eventually, her substitute position became full time and she was promoted to Head Cook at Borland Elementary. She loved interacting with the kids, being a part of the Imlay City community, and was saddened by being forced into early retirement after 20+ years due to her cancer diagnosis.

Kathy’s family, children, grandchildren, friends, and faith were the most precious to her. She also loved cooking, camping, annual ski trips to Boyne Highlands, Christmas, vacations with family and friends, hosting parties, her dog (Betty) and watching sports–especially her boys wrestling and the Detroit Red Wings.

Kathy is survived by her husband Henry B. Lyscas, her children, Joe (Kelli) Kopins, Jake (Allison) Kopins, Brenna (Mike) Perini, Sam Lyscas (Leah Timmer). She is also survived by seven grandchildren: Liam, Gretchen, Wynn, Harrison, Isla, Emma and Casey.

Kathy is also survived by parents Edward and Rosemary Day, mother-in-law, Pearl Lyscas, and father-in-law, Howard Kopins.

Kathy was preceded in death by her husband, Jim Kopins, mother-in-law, Joyce Kopins, and father-in-law, Henry F. Lyscas.

A Memorial Service was held on Thursday, December 28 at Lynch & Sons. Father Brian Hurley officiated.

Memorial donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
