Cheryl Hale was born on September 11, 1958, and died on December 22, 2023, at Corewell Health (formerly William Beaumont Troy Hospital) with loving family by her bedside.
Cheryl was the daughter of Claude and Janice Burgess. She lived in Romeo, MI as a child and moved to Imlay City. She graduated from Imlay City High School in 1977. Cheryl was employed by various local shops, most recently being Vintech of Imlay City. Cheryl retired in 2020 due to complications with her cancer diagnosis.
One of her enjoyments included traveling on cruises with her husband, Dan. Their first cruise was their honeymoon in Hawaii in July 1993, and their last cruise was in the Caribbean this past October 2023. Cheryl was advised by the doctors not to go on the October cruise due to her illness, but Cheryl was adamant about going: so, Dan and Cheryl went on their vacation. Although Cheryl was suffering from cancer complications, she made the best of the cruise. One of her hobbies was knitting. She blessed many infants and children with handcrafted knitted baby blankets. Cheryl wanted to get a pet cockatiel to keep her company while she struggled with her cancer, so she and Dan went and picked out their new family member, Kona. She spent many hours caring for this bird and Kona became a loving pet to Cheryl.
Cheryl is survived by her husband, Daniel Hale; her children, Nathan Lumley, and Neal (Crystal) Lumley; her step-daughters, Michon (Rick) Thompson, and Kaylee (Trevor) Kaeding; her siblings, Claudia (Robert) Councell, Greg Burgess, David (Sharon) Burgess, and Tamara (Dudley Simpson) Burgess; her grandchildren; aunts, uncles, cousins, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Claude and Janice Burgess; and her parents-in-law Bernie and Betty Hale.
The funeral service was held Wednesday, December 27, 2023, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, 200 N. Cedar St., Imlay City, MI. Licensed Lay Minister Wes Davis officiated. Interment followed in Attica Township.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the Muir Brothers Funeral Home of Imlay City, 225 N. Main Street, Imlay City, MI.
