BREAKING NEWS – The owners of Sage Creek Winery have confirmed to the Tri-City Times that they have decided to “put on hold” their plans of locating in Imlay City. The Memphis-based business had intended to expand into property owned by the city, where the old fire hall, DPW and what’s known as “the old sign shop” is located. Contaminated ground, and it’s history, were determining factors according to one of the owners, Mike Dausey. He told the TCT, “we have been looking at other properties in the Shelby Township, Sterling Heights and Rochester areas and we are still looking to expand.” Dausey, who says they have not purchased any property as of yet, said he is especially thankful for the work that Executive Director of the Lapeer Development Corp. Sam Moore and Imlay City Police Chief Brett Selby put in to trying to make the deal happen. “Those two worked really hard. I mean that. We appreciate all their efforts,” Dausey stated. We will have more on the story in the January 3 issue of the Tri-City Times.
