Floyd Theodore Wessel, age 84, of Lapeer and former longtime resident of Utica, passed away Thursday, November 30, 2023, surrounded by his children. He was born October 3, 1939, the son of the late Theodore & Elizabeth (Preiss) Wessel in Utica. He was an Army Veteran and retired farmer.

Floyd enjoyed the outdoors, going for walks, and spending time with his grandchildren. He was an avid Detroit sports fan, enjoyed good food and never turned down dessert.

Floyd is survived by his children Stephen (Amee) Wessel of Lapeer, Michael (Bea-Ellen) Wessel of Memphis, Suzanne (Nathan) Coats of Avoca and Jennifer (Shawn) Norwood of Holly; his grandchildren Austen Murphy, Aubree Murphy, Brittany (TJ) Wilson, Aurora Wessel, Owen Coats, Olivia Coats, Gabe Coats, Andrew Norwood, Christopher Norwood; and his former wife and close friend, Elgia Wessel. He is also survived by his siblings Ed (MaryBeth) Wessel, Betty (Sam*) Mikolowski, Jeannie (Bob*) Knapp, Dolly (Chuck*) Schreiner, Bernadine (Dave) Stenz, Joey (Ken) Kruse, Buzz Wessel & Bob (Ruth) Wessel; sister-in-law Veronica Wessel and numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his siblings Ted Wesseland John (Florence) Wessel.

Rosary was said December 5, 2023, at Muir Funeral Home & Celebration of Life Center, 2650 S. Van Dyke, Imlay City, MI 48444.

The Funeral Mass will be said on Wednesday, December 6, 2023, at 11 a.m. with Visitation from 10-11 a.m. at Our Holy Family Parish, 79780 Main St, Memphis, MI 48041.

Burial take place on Thursday, December 7, 2023, at Great Lakes National Cemetery, 4200 Belford Rd., Holly, MI 48442. Please meet at the main entrance before 9:45 a.m.

Memorial Donations made in Floyd’s name will be used for causes supporting mental health and awareness.
