Larry Kennel, age 81, of Imlay City, Michigan died Tuesday, November 14, 2023, at his home surrounded by his family. Larry Walter Kennel was born February 20, 1942, in Thornville, MI. He is the son of the late Walter and the late Mildred (Cooklin) Kennel.

Larry grew up and lived most of his life in the Imlay City area. He is a graduate of Imlay City High School, Class of 1960. Larry continued his education at Flint Community Junior College and Western Michigan University, receiving his Bachelor of Science degree. He was employed by and proudly served in the United States Army in the Engineering Division for 20 years, serving during the Vietnam War and was deployed for 3 years in Germany. Larry retired from the Army Reserves as a Lt. Colonel. He married Sharon Schaaf on April 13, 1968, in Lapeer, Michigan.

After retiring from the Army, Larry was employed by GTE as a Telecommunications Specialist and was a subcontractor for several communication companies.

For several years, Larry served as a member on the Imlay Township Board and was a life member of the Imlay City American Legion and Veteran of Foreign Wars. He is survived by his wife, Sharon Kennel; daughter, Krystal (Sam Renner) Kennel of Osweso, NY; and his son, Kevin Kennel of Imlay City, MI.

Larry was preceded in death by his parents, Walt and Mildred Kennel; and his sister, Karen (Carl) Gierman.

The funeral service was held Friday, November 17, 2023, at Muir Brothers Funeral Home of Imlay City, 225 N. Main Street, Imlay City, MI. Reverend Jeff DuFour, pastor of Crossroads Baptist Church, officiated. Interment followed at Imlay Township Cemetery.

Arrangements were entrusted to Muir Brothers Funeral Home of Imlay City.
