Senior Center to host meeting November 7

IMLAY CITY — Imlay City officials are pleased to announce a Community Engagement Session aimed at discussing a significant grant opportunity for enhancing outdoor recreational opportunities within the community.

City officials say the session will provide community members with valuable information about the grant, fostering a collaborative dialogue to identify the best ways to improve our local outdoor spaces.

The engagement session will take place on Tuesday, November 7 from 6-7 p.m. at the Imlay City Senior Center located at 395 E. Third Street.

The event will offer a platform for community members, local organizations, and stakeholders to learn about the grant, share ideas and work together to create a vision for the future of outdoor recreation in our area.

Imlay City has been identified as an opportunity community by the Michigan Department of Natural Resources through a historic partnership with the Michigan Council of Foundation.

With this designation comes a unique opportunity to for apply grant funding from a $25 million pool of SPARKS grant funding.

The money has been set aside to create funding opportunities for the communities that have been historically under-resourced and underrepresented and have been most negatively impacted by COVID-19.

Administered by the Department of Natural Resources (DNR), Michigan Spark Grants– funded by American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) dollars–will support projects that provide safe, accessible public recreation facilities and spaces to improve people’s health, introduce new recreation experiences, build on existing park infrastructure and make it easier for people to enjoy both indoor and outdoor recreation.

“We are excited about the potential of this grant opportunity to transform our local outdoor recreational spaces,” said Craig Horton, Imlay City Manager.

“We encourage all community members, including residents, businesses, and local organizations, to join us in this important conversation. Together, we can identify projects that will benefit our community for years to come.”

Attendance at the Community Engagement Session is free, and all community members are encouraged to participate.

Refreshments will be provided, fostering a casual and inclusive atmosphere for productive discussions.

An online survey has also been created to gather local input. Everyone who completes the survey will be entered to win a $50 gift card. The survey can be accessed here: www.surveymonkey.com/r/Z7LS2YS.
