Darlene Stine, 85, of North Branch, MI died Sunday, September 24, 2023 at McLaren Lapeer Region Hospital. Darlene Helen Johnston was born April 18, 1938, in Lapeer, MI. She is the daughter of the late Edwin and the late Hazel (Scherf) Johnston. Darlene grew up in Lapeer. She was a graduate of Lapeer High School, Class of 1956. Darlene married Lawrence Stine on June 23, 1956, in Lapeer, Michigan. She lived most of her married life on the family farm. Darlene was preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence, on December 8, 2010.
Darlene worked as a nurse’s aide for 20 years at Suncrest Nursing Home (Lapeer County Medical Care Facility), before retiring from the ‘Memory Care Section’. She had earned the Employee of the Month Award there; she loved her job and enjoyed interacting with all of the patients. Darlene also worked as a nurse’s aide at Ferguson Nursing Home in Lapeer for several years.
She was a long-time attendee of the Faith Baptist Church of Brown City. In retirement, Darlene enjoyed rides along the Michigan shoreline, watching the birds, deer, turkeys (in her back yard), putting together jigsaw puzzles, spending time in her flower gardens, baking pies (she was a great pie maker), and listening to Christian music and hymns.
Darlene is survived by her daughter, Linda Stine of North Branch, MI; son, Mark (Kathy) Stine of Imlay City, MI; her sister, Marilyn (Steve) Balabon of Fostoria, MI; her grandchildren, Pamela Josey, Darrin (Regan) Stine, and Adam (Caitlin) Stine; and her great-grandchildren, Naomi, Imala, and Lucy.
Darlene was preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence Stine; parents, Edwin and Hazel Johnston; and her brother, George Johnston.
The funeral services will be held 1 p.m., Wednesday, September 27, 2023 at Faith Baptist Church of Brown City, 6910 Cade Rd., Brown City, MI. Pastor Paul Gaymon will be officiating. Burial will follow in Goodland Township Cemetery, Imlay City.
The family will be available for visitation 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m. Wednesday, September 27, 2023, at Faith Baptist Church of Brown City.
