Vernabell Wheeler, age 91, of Attica, MI died Thursday, August 31, 2023, at United Hospice Residence of Marlette, MI. Vernabell Harley was born January 3, 1932 in Lapeer, MI. She is the daughter of the late Don and the late Aleta (Miller) Harley. Vernabell grew up in Imlay City, MI. She was a graduate of Imlay City High School, Class of 1950. She married Clarence “June” Wheeler on December 16, 1950 in Imlay City, Michigan. Vernabell and June lived in Brown City, MI from 1956-1990. They moved to Zephyrhills, FL until 2009 when they moved to Attica, MI. She was preceded in death by her husband, June, August 30, 2011.

She was employed as a teacher’s aide by Imlay City Public Schools for Kindergarten through 3rd grade for 25 years. Vernabell was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church of Imlay City, MI, Trinity Lutheran Church of Brown City, MI and Attica Methodist Church of Attica, MI. She was also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star. Vernabell was a 4-H teacher and leader. She enjoyed: quilting, oil painting, genealogy, crocheting, cooking and baking.
Vernabell is survived by: her daughter, Sandra (Dan) Rozboril of Hawks, MI; sons, Don (Donna) Wheeler of Pigeon, MI, Robert (Linda) Wheeler of Imlay City, MI, and Thomas (Denise) Wheeler of Capac, MI; 11 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by: her husband, June Wheeler; daughter-in-law, Kim Wheeler; sisters, Melvajean (Ron) Eineder, Lowana (Robert) Wheeler, and Cecil (John) Belfor; and her sister-in-law, Shirley (Al) Hillman.

The funeral service will be held 11 a.m., Wednesday, September 6, 2023, with visitation at 10 a.m. prior to the service, at Muir Brothers Funeral Home of Imlay City, 225 N. Main Street, Imlay City, MI. Pastor Ron Rouse, pastor of Attica Methodist Church, will officiate. Interment will follow at Imlay Township Cemetery.
