John B. Young, age 84, of Imlay City, MI died Friday, September 1, 2023, at Bella Senior Care Center of Macomb, MI. John Bartholomew Young was born on August 28, 1939, in Highland Park, MI. He is the son of the late Essel Gordon and the late Janet (Haley) Young.
He grew up in the Detroit, MI area and graduated from Chadsey High School in Detroit, MI. He attended Cass Tech High School in Detroit to study Tool & Die work while serving his apprenticeship. John studied Criminal Justice courses and Police Training courses Saginaw Valley, St. Clair County Community College and at Delta College. He served in the U. S. Marine Corps in 1962. John moved to Imlay City in 1966. He has lived in the Imlay City area for many years.
John worked in tool & die for eight years before making a career change. He became an Imlay City Police Officer from 1971-1972 and a Lapeer County Sheriff’s Road Patrol Deputy for 17 years from 1972-1989; in retirement he acted as the Imlay Township Constable.
He is survived by, his daughter, Peggy (Steve Leonard) Jurcisin of San Carlos, Mexico; and his son, John Young of Houston, Texas. John was preceded in death by his parents, Essel and Janet Young; and his brothers, Franklin Young and Gordon Young.
The Committal Services will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday, September 8, 2023, at White Chapel Cemetery, 621 W. Long Lake Rd., Troy, MI.
The family will be available for visiting hours from 4 p.m.-8 p.m. on Thursday, September 7, 2023, at Muir Brothers Funeral Home of Imlay City, 225 N. Main Street, Imlay City, MI.
