Dear Editor,
The Family Literacy Center was the beneficiary of a recent local event. Executive Director, Mary Shelton, stated, “We deeply appreciate the generous support of Northwestern Mutual-Lapeer, Eric Cassabon and Ken Hummel who made us the beneficiary of their August 25 golf outing at the Lapeer Country Club.”
Cassabon and Hummel raised funds for the Center and brought in donations to help their cause! They raised more than $4,000 to support the Center. They also gave postage stamps, printer cartridges, gift cards, and snacks for students.
Shelton said that our local Northwestern Mutual office has partnered with the Family Literacy Center for 2023. This is the second major fundraiser Cassabon and Hummel have done for FLC this year.
Shelton stated, “We deeply appreciate the support of these wonderful community
partners!”
The Family Literacy Center provides free, one-to-one tutoring and support services for adults in our community who want to improve their basic skills or earn their GED. The Center also provides child tutoring programs and family workshops. Their next tutor training is coming up on September 15 and volunteers are always needed.
