Clara Toni Doster, 95, of Imlay City, passed away on August 10, 2023. Clara was born April 28, 1928, in Detroit, to Tony and Henrietta (Chwala) Estern. She married Harold E. Doster in Imlay City at Sacred Heart Catholic Church on December 1, 1951.
Clara first came to Imlay City in 1934. She graduated from Imlay City High School, and was named Valedictorian of her class. She received her undergraduate degree from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, majoring in Russian and minoring in Spanish. During her lifetime, she could speak and/or read several languages. Opting instead to raise a family in Imlay City, she would later turn down a position with the United Nations as a translator.
A lifelong fan of the Wolverines, Clara met her husband Harold in Ann Arbor while they both attended and later graduated from the University of Michigan. Clara and Harold raised two sons, both of which graduated from the University of Michigan. There were no scarlet and grey colors in the Doster household. Clara was at the heart of the community, serving on the Imlay Township Library Board for many years and in countless volunteer capacities for Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Imlay City and for Imlay City Schools.
She is survived by sons, Anthony (Barbara) of Plainfield, Indiana and Eric (Mary) of Mason; grandchildren, Alyssa (Sam), Nathan (Hannah), Emily (Brian), Amanda, Erin, Amy, and Megan; and great-grandchild, Charlie.
Clara has joyfully reunited in Heaven with her parents, Tony and Henrietta Estern; son, Michael; and her husband and beloved lifelong companion of nearly 50 years, Harold.
The Funeral Mass (Mass of Christian Burial) will be held 10 a.m., Saturday, August 19, 2023, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 700 Maple Vista, Imlay City, Michigan. The Reverend Father Noel Cornelio will officiate. Burial will follow at Imlay Township Cemetery.
The family will be available for visitation 5:30 p.m. until 8 p.m. Friday, August 18, 2023 at the Muir Brothers Funeral Home of Imlay City, 225 N. Main Street, Imlay City and from 9-10 a.m. Saturday, August 19, 2023, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Imlay City.
