
The White team celebrates their 2-1 win over the Blue squad in the Imlay City Alumni Soccer Game last Saturday night. The contest went to penalty kicks before a victor was determined.
IMLAY CITY — The White team outlasted the Blue squad, 2-1, in a contest that went to penalty kicks to determine a victor at the Third Annual Imlay City Alumni Soccer Game last Saturday night.
“We would like to thank the community for their amazing support and we had a fantastic turnout,” Imlay City Boys’ Soccer Coach Luis Hernandez commented. “We also want to thank our main sponsors Jalisco’s Deli, Botanas el Paisa as well as El Ranchito for providing the amazing tamales for our concessions.”
“Special mention goes out to Yanderia Santana, Margaret Deluca, Dan Campbell and Diana Hernandez for helping out with the organizational aspect that made this a better experience for our annual game. And we would like to thank the alumni that, with their support, make the high school students have a better soccer experience.”
The Blue squad’s Jose Barragan opened the scoring, putting his shot past the White team’s goalkeeper with 30:50 remaining on the second half clock.
The White team then put the outcome back up for grabs, making it a 1-1 score when Rigo Galeana connected with 1:06 remaining in regulation play.
The next minute-plus was scoreless, sending the contest to penalty kicks to determine a victor.
It was there the White team made five attempts and the Blue squad converted four, ending with the game-winner by Edwin Galindo.
Adrian Hernandez, Eric Schwalbe, Alfredo Barragan, Alfredo Rodriguez, Gabriel Vaca, Braulio Torres, Sylvester Galeana, Edgar Barragan, Edwin Galindo, Jagger Land, Luis Barragan, Jose Salcedo (Chema), Rodrigo Sanchez, Tim Ruolo, Alejandro Martinez and Lucian Collison rounded out the winning side’s roster.
Stefan Brady, Jayden Collison, Jonah Ragle, Jose Salcedo (Butters), Omar Cardenas, Griffin Wagester, Jose Barragan, Luis Hernandez, John Knezevich, Jorge Barragan, James Roulo, Jack Ragle, Christopher Nava, Victor Galindo, Edson Zepeda, Theo Collison and Juan Zepeda joined Jonathan Torres on the Blue squad’s roster.
