
Almont’s Ava Panduren sprints to chase down a pass at the National Girls’ Academy Finals in St. Louis.
ALMONT — Ava Panduren, who will be a senior at Almont High School this fall, helped the 2006 Nationals Blue squad earn a third-place finish at the National Girls’ Academy Finals recently.
The tournament was contested July 6-9 in St. Louis, Missouri.
Panduren’s team kicked off their successful tournament run on Thursday, July 6 with a 4-0 quarterfinal win against STA.
They then challenged TSJ Virginia the following day. The semifinal clash, which was tied 1-1 at the end of regulation play, went to double overtime and from there to penalty kicks where the 2006 Nationals Blue team lost.
The squad then met Lonestar, a team hailing from Texas next on Sunday, July 9. It was there they saw to it they would prevail, picking up a 5-1 victory.
For their performance, the 2006 Nationals Blue squad earned a third-place showing.
