Dawn Grey Hooton, 70, of Imlay City, MI, died Saturday July 15, 2023, at home with her family after a valiant battle with lung cancer.

Dawn was born on January 30, 1953, in Oak Hill, WV to John Marshall and Virginia Grey (Chafin) Dodson.

She married Larry H. Kohler January 24, 1970. Dawn graduated from Dryden High School in 1971. She went on to have 4 children and raise a family.

In May 1994, Dawn graduated from Charles Stewart Mott Community College as a registered nurse with an Associates Degree and High Honors.

Dawn then went on to work at Marlette Hospital as the head nurse on the geriatrics ward from 1994 until 1999. On October 2, 1999, Dawn married Thomas D. Hooton Sr., and moved to Clarkston, MI. She then worked at Pontiac Osteopathic Hospital until she retired in 2007.

After retiring, Dawn spent her time traveling, sitting on beaches in her flip flops, reading, counted cross stitching, watching true crime shows, and spending time with her family and grandchildren.

She moved back to Imlay City after the death of her second husband, Tom, in 2014.

Dawn is preceded in death by her parents, John and Virginia Dodson; her husbands, Larry H. Kohler and Thomas D. Hooton Sr.; sons Corey and Tyson Glen Kohler; and her brothers-in-law H. Ross Kildow and Ralph E. Kohler.

Dawn is survived by her daughters, Tyree Grey (Nick) Konarski of Attica, MI and Kathryn Sue (Dave) Dalessandro of Capac, MI; grandchildren, Benjamin, Jenna, Angelene, Jacob, Anna, Matthew, and Joseph; her siblings, Cherry “Cricket” Kildow of Cheyenne, WY, Susan (Ron) Belcher of Imlay City, MI, Lori (Ken) Stolworthy of Stuttgart Germany, and John (Heidi) Dodson of Ann Arbor, MI; her nieces Rani Mckeehan, Rachel Van Houten, Justine Stolworthy, and Claire Dodson.

The family is planning a graveside memorial for sometime in August.

Arrangements for Dawn’s cremation were entrusted to Muir Brothers Funeral Home, 225 N. Main Street, Imlay City, MI.
