John “Jack” Hager, age 88, of Imlay City, MI died peacefully at his home Thursday, July 6, 2023, surrounded by his loving family. John Evan Hager was born March 19, 1935, in Pontiac, MI. He is the son of the late Carl and the late Eleanor (Johnson) Hager. Jack grew up in Marlette, MI. He attended Montgomery Country School and is a graduate of Marlette High School. Jack proudly served in the United States Army from 1957 to 1958. He married Bernadine (Zimmer) Case on June 30, 2012, in Imlay City, MI.

He was employed as an auto salesman for 50 years by Dave Hall Chevrolet in Marlette, MI, Milnes Chevrolet in Imlay City, Scott Chevrolet in Imlay City and Hugh Gorey Chevrolet in Imlay City before retiring at the age of 80. Jack attended church services at Marlette Baptist Church, North Goodland Baptist Church, and Amazing Grace Church of Imlay City (formerly Imlay City United Methodist Church). He was a member of the American Quarter Horse Association and was a “Top Breeder” and horse showman. Jack participated in mare breeding programs. He was always busy and a good carpenter.

Jack is survived by his wife, Bernadine “Bernie” Hager of Imlay City, MI; daughter, Leigh Anne (William) Draper of Burton, MI; and his sons, Chris Bradley Hager of Hollywood, CA and Matthew Neal (Tina) Hager of Chesterfield Twp. He is also survived by his brother, Lauren (Carol) Hager of Port Huron, MI; grandchildren, Lauren (Michael) Crongeyer, Cari (Samuel) Knorr, and Dylan Hager; and his great-grandchildren, Jack, Kate, Norah and Reid.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Sharon Hager and his brother, Carlyle Hager.

The funeral service was held Monday, July 10, 2023, at Amazing Grace Church of Imlay City, 210 N. Almont Avenue, Imlay City, MI (formerly Imlay City United Methodist Church). Pastor Gary Bird officiated. Interment followed at Marlette Cemetery in Marlette, MI.

Arrangements were entrusted to Muir Brothers Funeral Home of Imlay City, 225 N. Main Street, Imlay City.
