David Penzien, age 67, of Attica, MI died suddenly as a result of an auto-pedestrian accident Wednesday, June 28, 2023 in Imlay City, Michigan. David James Penzien was born November 2, 1955 in Lapeer, MI. He is the son of Harry John and the late June Leota (Wills) Penzien. David lived all of his life in the Attica area. He was a graduate of Imlay City High School, Class of 1974.

David grew up on the family’s Centennial Farm and worked the land around Attica, Capac and Imlay City all of his life. He raised sugar beets, and certified wheat, oats and barley seed. David married Sharon Schmidt Goda on April 3, 1987 at Attica, MI.

David participated and was a leader of Imlay City FFA and played in the Imlay City High School Band. He learned to play the organ and the piano. He became an excellent church musician. He was the primary organist at the St. John Lutheran Church in Capac, the Dryden United Methodist Church, and the Attica United Methodist Church at different times. When David and Sharon joined the Davison Missionary Church, he became the Missionary Church Men’s Choir Director.

David earned many medals for running in many 5K, 10K, half-marathons and marathons around the state. He has run the Mighty Mackinac Bridge Race, the Crim Runs in Flint for 30 years, the Detroit Marathon, the Air Force Marathon, and many of the Imlay City Blue Berry Festival 5k & 10K runs.

David is survived by: his wife, Sharon Penzien of Attica, MI; his sons: David (Jennifer Goodell) Penzien of Novi, MI, James (Laura) Penzien of Highland Twp., MI, Charles (Rene) Penzien of Huber Heights, OH; his father, Harry Penzien of Attica; his brother: Duane (Shirley) Penzien of Sault Ste. Marie, MI; brothers-in-law, David (Doris) Schmidt of Macomb, MI, William (Lori) Schmidt of Attica, MI; sister-in-law, Janie Diehl of Imlay City, MI. Also surviving are his grandchildren: Cole, Landon, Austin, Delaney, Christian, Brenden, Liam, Landen, and Harmony.

David was preceded in death by: his sister, Jane Katherine Penzien and his mother, June Penzien.

The funeral services were held Monday, July 3, 2023 at Davison Missionary Church, 1481 N. Gail Rd., Davison, MI. Burial followed in Attica Township Cemetery, Attica, MI.
