TRI-CITY AREA — With one player hitting above .600, two more batting .500 or higher, seven others others hitting above .400 and three more batting above .300 this lineup certainly is a talented one indeed.

Defensively, they also can be counted on to deliver consistent play game in and game out.

Here is a look at the 2023 edition of The Tri-City Times All-Area softball team and the numbers they put up to accomplish the feat:

Myah McLean, Almont.

Position: Pitcher

Throws: Righthanded

Record: McLean posted a 15-3 mark, with a 1.76 ERA, during the 2023 campaign.

The senior allowed McLean allowed 92 hits over 92 2/3 innings, struck out 71 and walked 18.

Postseason honors: She finished her second year on Almont’s squad as an All-Blue Water Area Conference first team selection.

Madalyn Roberson, Capac.

Position: Pitcher

Throws: Righthanded

Record: Roberson put together a 20-11 record this spring.

She also gave up 194 hits, struck out 212 and issued 37 walks.

Batting average: Roberson took first on the  Capac squad and fifth among Tri-City Times All-Area first team honorees with a .482 average.

She supplied 33 singles, 17 doubles, two triples and one home runs in 110 at bats.

The junior also collected 50 RBI, scored 50 runs and registered five stolen bases.

This was her third year on Capac’s varsity.

Postseason honors: Roberson completed the year as an All-Greater Thumb Conference first team choice and an All-District pick.

She was also the recipient of her team’s Most Valuable Player Award.

Hope Schriber, Imlay City.

Position: Pitcher

Throws: Righthanded

Record: Schriber managed an 11-11 mark, with a 3.84 ERA, during the 2023 campaign.

The senior allowed 172 hits over 129 2/3 innings, struck out 97 and walked 29.

Batting average: Schriber ranked third on the Imlay City squad and 11th out of those who attained Tri-City Times All-Area first team status with a .365 average.

The senior had 28 singles, 10 doubles, one triple and three RBI in 115 at bats.

Schriber also contributed 34 RBI, generated 30 runs, stole nine bases and drew six walks.

This was her third year on Imlay City’s squad.

Postseason honors: Schriber wrapped her final season with Imlay City as an All-Blue Water Area Conference first team selection and All-District choice.

Natalie Stone, Imlay City.

Position: Pitcher/Third base

Throws: Righthanded

Record: Stone generated a 5-4 record, including a 5.52 ERA, this spring.

In 58 1/3 innings of work, Stone gave up 75 hits, struck out 57 and walked 32.

Batting average: Stone took first on the Imlay City squad and fourth among Tri-City Times All-Area first team honorees with a .496 average.

She provided 32 singles, nine doubles, four triples and eight home runs in 127 at bats.

Stone struck out just nine times.

The senior also scored 49 runs, collected 37 RBI, drew 11 walks and stole nine bases.

This was her third year on Imlay City’s varsity.

Postseason honors: Stone completed the season as an All-Blue Water Area Conference first team pick as well as an All-District and region selection.

Stone has signed a letter of intent with Ferris State University.

Kendall Roszczewski, Almont.

Position: Catcher

Batting average: Roszczewski wound up fifth on the Almont squad and tied for ninth out of those who attained Tri-City Times All-Area first team status with a .429 average.

The senior furnished 28 singles, eight doubles and three triples in 91 at bats.

Roszczewski also contributed 31 RBI, 25 runs, seven walks and four stolen bases to Almont’s cause.

She struck out just nine times.

This was her third year on Almont’s squad.

Postseason honors: Roszczewski completed the 2023 campaign as an All-District and All-Region choice as well as a Division 3 All-State and All-Blue Water Area Conference honorable mention pick.

Devin Johnston, Almont.

Position: Third base

Batting average: Johnston ranked second on the Almont squad and among Tri-City Times All-Area first team honorees with a .575 average.

She managed 24 singles, seven doubles, nine triples and two home runs in 75 at bats.

The senior also collected 37 RBI, scored 36 runs, stole 18 bases and drew five walks.

Johnston struck out just two times.

This was her third year on Almont’s varsity.

Postseason honors: Johnston wrapped up the season as an All-Blue Water Area Conference first team selection, an All-District and All-Region choice as well as a Division 3 All-State honorable mention pick.

Chloe Schocke, Capac.

Position: Third base/catcher

Batting average: Schocke took fifth on the Capac squad and 13th out of those who attained Tri-City Times All-Area first team status with a .313 average.

She supplied 14 singles, six doubles, four triples and one home run in 80 at bats.

The sophomore also collected 24 RBI, scored 22 runs and stole two bases.

This was her second year on Capac’s squad.

Postseason honors: Schocke concluded the season as an All-Greater Thumb Conference East first team selection and an All-District choice.

She was also named the recipient of her team’s Defensive Award.

Grace Koenig, Almont.

Position: Shortstop

Batting average: Koenig placed first on the Almont squad and out of those who attained Tri-City Times All-Area first team status with a .633 average.

The senior supplied 34 singles, 10 doubles, six triples and seven home runs in 90 at bats.

Koenig also generated 53 runs, amassed 38 RBI, stole 15 bases and contributed 12 walks to Almont’s cause.

She struck out just five times.

This was her third year on Almont’s squad.

Postseason honors: Koenig ended the 2023 campaign as a Division 3 All-State first team selection, an All-Region and All-District choice as well as an All-Blue Water Area Conference first team pick.

Chloe Bruman, Imlay City.

Position: Shortstop

Batting average: Bruman ranked second on the Imlay City squad and tied for ninth among Tri-City Times All-Area first team honorees with a .429 average.

She finished with 45 singles and four doubles in 116 at bats.

The sophomore also scored 36 runs, stole 22 bases, drew 12 walks and collected 10 RBI.

This was her second season on Imlay City’s squad.

Postseason honors: Bruman concluded the season as an All-District selection and an All-Blue Water Area Conference honorable mention choice.

Skielar Tesnow, Capac

Position: Shortstop

Batting average: Tesnow placed second on the Capac squad and seventh out of those who attained Tri-City Times All-Area first team status with a .448 average.

The junior had 33 singles, 10 doubles, three triples and six home runs in 116 at bats.

Tesnow also scored 48 runs, collected 45 RBI and stole three bases.

This was her third year on Capac’s squad.

Postseason honors: Tesnow finished the 2023 campaign as an All-District selection and an All Greater Thumb Conference East second team choice.

She also shared her team’s Top Offensive Player Award with Julia Schaefer.

Lydia LaCavera, Almont.

Position: Second base

Batting average: LaCavera ranked fourth on the Almont squad and sixth among Tri-City Times All-Area first team honorees with a .457 average.

She generated 28 singles, six doubles, four triples and one home run in 81 at bats.

The junior also scored 25 runs, collected 19 RBI, stole 14 bases and walked nine times.

This was her third season on Almont’s squad.

Postseason honors: LaCavera ended the season as an All-District pick.

Yesenia Rojas, Imlay City.

Position: Second base

Batting average: Rojas wound up fourth on the Imlay City squad and 12th out of those who attained Tri-City Times All-Area first team status with a .340 average.

The senior provided 26 singles and nine doubles in 103 at bats.

She also contributed 29 runs, 24 RBI, eight walks and three stolen bases to Imlay City’s cause.

This was her third year on Imlay City’s squad.

Postseason honors: Rojas concluded the 2023 campaign as an All-Blue Water Area Conference honorable mention selection.

Brooklyn Bunch, Almont.

Position: Centerfield

Batting average: Bunch ranked third on the Almont squad and third among Tri-City Times All-Area first team honorees with a .500 average.

She finished with 25 singles, 10 doubles, two triples and two home runs in 89 at bats.

The sophomore also scored 41 runs, provided 14 steals and 14 RBI and drew six walks.

She struck out just six times.

This was her second season on Almont’s squad.

Postseason honors: Bunch completed the season as an All-District and All-Region selection as well as an All-Blue Water Area Conference choice.

Julia Schaefer, Capac.

Position: Centerfield

Batting average: Schaefer wound up third on the Capac squad and eighth out of those who attained Tri-City Times All-Area first team status with a .431 average.

The senior had 52 singles and one double in 123 at bats.

She also stole 67 bases, scored 54 runs and collected 13 RBI.

This was her fourth year on Capac’s squad.

Postseason honors: Schaefer wrapped up the season as an All-Greater Thumb Conference East first team selection and All-District choice.

She also shared her team’s Top Offensive Player Award with Skielar Tesnow.

Second team-Robin Owens, catcher, Capac; Reese Schmidt, catcher, Imlay City; Jewel Rickman, second base, Capac; Paige Hansen, first base, Capac; Brook Ross, first base, Imlay City; Elly Schapman, first base, Almont; Addie Tresnak, shortstop, Dryden; and Lauren Webster, outfield, Almont.

Coach of the Year– For directing his team to a 25-3 overall mark and a 12-2 Blue Water Area Conference record (good for second place), Almont Coach Erik Johnson earns Tri-City Times All-Area Coach of the Year accolades.

Capac Coach Ashley Mousseau, who guided her team to a 23-11 overall mark as well as a Division 4 district title, was also considered for the honor.

Kevin is a 1980 graduate of Capac High School, and is also a grad of St. Clair Community College and earned a degree in journalism from Central Michigan University.
