ALMONT — A pair of Almont track standouts were recently honored by the National High School Coaches Association.
Devin Johnston was named a first team Academic All-American.
She garnered that attention based on her success in the classroom(recently graduating with a 4.0186 grade point average) along with her athletic accomplishments (2023 state champion in the 100 and 200 dashes, two-time all-state in softball along with several BWAC honors).
Devin was also a nominee for Student Athlete of the Year through TheLeadershipPlaybook.com.
Almont’s Matthew Bacholzky was recently selected a second team Academic All-American.
He earned this honor based on his success in the classroom (finishing his freshman year with a 4.11083 grade point average) combined with his athletic accomplishments (regional long jump champion, Division 3 state finals qualifier in the long jump, 400-meter dash and 1600 relay as well as 2023 USATF Indoor All-American honors in the 15-16 age division).

Kevin Kissane has been covering high school sports for the Tri-City Times since 1985. When not standing on a field or court with his camera and notepad, he enjoys golf, travel and family. Kevin is a 1980 graduate of Capac High School, and is also a grad of St. Clair Community College and earned a degree in journalism from Central Michigan University.
