Summer fun kicks off in several communities

Summer is short and sweet for many in Michigan and with that, various groups and organizatiopns have been busy planning fun, festivals and fairs to keep everyone busy and enjoying the great outdoors of Michigan.
Below is a listing of events coming up in the month of June.

Music in the Park

IMLAY CITY — Music in the Park started this week, on Tuesday evening. The shows hit the stage from 7 until 8:30 p.m. and can be seen at the Lamb Steele Park in downtown Imlay City.

The event is sponsored by the Imlay City Downtown Development Authority. Below is the tentative schedule for the summer:

27–Bob Marshall Band with Country Western

July
11–Motor City Josh & The Big Three Rockin’ Blues
18–Acoustic Ash with Motown Activism

August
1–Bernadette Kathryn & Lonely Days Band playing Country Rebel
8–Pat Smillie Band playing Soulful Motown
15–Della, a Country singer and songwriter.

In case of inclement weather for any of the concerts, an alternative location will be announced on the DDA Facebook page.

Arts & Antiques

IMLAY CITY — Save the dates for the Gateway to the Thumb’s Arts & Antiques Festival that is sure to draw hundreds of visitors to the Imlay City fairgrounds this weekend, June 17 and 18, from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. on Saturday and 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. Sunday.

Organizers are expecting over 100 vendors, antique vintage collectibles and hand-crafted artisan demonstrations. There will be plenty of food and music for attendees both days. The displays will be located in fairgrounds barns, tent displays and outdoor areas.

Farmers Market

IMLAY CITY — The always popular Farmers market, sponsored by the Imlay City Downtown Development Authority kicked off on Thursday of this week and will run every week through October 12 in downtown Imlay City, near the intersection of Third and Main Streets.

DDA organizers are looking for anyone who wishes to sell their goods whether it’s crafts, baking, gardening, artisans, produce growers or any other goods that could be sold at the Farmer’s Market. The event will be open from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. each week, depending on the weather. To be a vendor or for more infornmation, you can contact the Imlay City DDA at 810-724-2135.

HB Tours

HARBOR BEACH — Both this Saturday and next Saturday, June 17 and 24, the folks in Harbor Beach will be allowing lighthouse tours, located just off shore of the city beach area.

Beginning June 23, Music in the Park will fill the airwaves in Harbor Beach from 7 to 10 p.m. and then on June 24, Movie at the Beach night will get underway at dusk.

Sugar Fest

SEBEWAING — If you’re up for a nice drive to the tip of The Thumb, Sebewaing will welcome you to the Michigan Sugar Festival June 15 thru 18.

A full schedule of events are planned including a chicken BBQ, arts and crafts show, food trucks, a carnival and, of course, the big Grand Parade.
