Almont Coach Mark Bone talks to Cam Bourdeau at the Division 3 boys’ golf state finals.

ALMONT — The Almont boys’ golf team registered a two-way tie for a 10th- place showing last Friday and Saturday at the Division 3 state finals. Forest Akers West Golf Course, in East Lansing, provided the tournament venue.

“I feel we had a very successful season,” Almont Coach Mark Bone commented. “The varsity and junior varsity continued to work hard and improve the entire year,” he noted.

“Our junior varsity program continues to develop players to be competitive when they step up to the varsity level. I feel the competition among the team for our six varsity spots is a driving force to our success. Coach James Fuller is a huge part to not only the junior varsity players but also instilling his competitive insights to the varsity players. The cool part of the season was, we were able to win the BWAC Tournament, retain the BWAC Conference title, place in the top three at regionals and the top ten at states, but even with all of that, the team has already set the bar high for next year. I am looking forward to seeing the guys continue to work and grow their game. To reflect back on how far each player has developed to make this a true ‘team’ success is incredible. This is what makes these types of seasons special, knowing how each and every player, varsity and junior varsity, contributed to our success.”
