TRI-CITY AREA — From start to finish, these competitors came through with solid performances no matter what the course.
Here is a look at who made the 2023 edition of The Tri-City Times All-Area boys’ golf team and the credentials they produced along the way:
Cam Bourdeau, Almont.
Bourdeau averaged 41 per nine-hole round during the 2023 campaign, leaving him tied first on the Almont squad and among those who attained Tri-City Times All-Area first team status.
The junior shot a medalist round 73 at the Blue Water Area Conference Tournament hosted by Holly Meadows in Capac; managed a 78 during the Armada-based Evans Gill Invitational; furnished a 79 at a Division 3 regional hosted by Hawk Hollow in Bath; managed an 80 at the Perry-based Dick’s Sporting Goods Invitational at Glenbrier Golf Course; and added a 92 during the Orange Green Invitational hosted by Copper Hills Golf Course.
He also posted a 165 over 36 holes en route to a 26th during the Division 3 state finals at Forest Akers West Golf Course in East Lansing.
Bourdeau finished his third season on Almont’s squad as an All-Blue Water Area Conference first team selection.
He was also named the recipient of his conference’s MVP Award.
Manny Goldstein, Almont.
Goldstein managed a 41 average for nine holes this spring, good for a share of first on the Almont golf squad and among Tri-City Times All-Area first team honorees.
The junior carded a 79 for fourth medalist honors during the Orange Green Invitational hosted by Copper Hills Golf Course in Lakeville; contributed 81s at the Timberwood Golf Course-based Evans-Gill Invitational and Blue Water Area Conference Tournament hosted by Holly Meadows Golf Course in Capac; generated an 82 during a Division 3 regional hosted by Hawk Hollow Golf Course in Bath; plus provided an 83 during the Dick’s Sporting Goods Invitational at Glenbrier Golf Course in Perry.
He also chipped in a 169 over 36 holes on the way to a 36th during the Division 3 state finals at Forest Akers West Golf Course in East Lansing.
Goldstein wrapped up his third year on Almont’s squad as an All-Blue Water Area Conference first team choice.
Clayton Rosczczewski, Almont.
Roszczewski averaged 41.8 per nine-hole round during the 2023 campaign, leaving him third on the Almont squad and among those who attained Tri-City Times All-Area first team status.
The senior posted a 75 for third medalist honors at the Blue Water Area Conference Tournament hosted by Holly Meadows in Capac; contributed an 84 at the Timberwood Golf Course-based Evans-Gill Invitational; managed an 85 at a Division 3 regional hosted by Hawk Hollow Golf Course in Bath; supplied a 90 during the Orange Green Invitational at Copper Hills Golf Course; plus generated a 91 during the Perry-based Dick’s Sporting Goods Invitational at Glenbrier Golf Course.
He also shot a 184 over 36 holes en route to an 83rd during the Division 3 state finals at Forest Akers West Golf Course in East Lansing.
This was his first season on Almont’s squad.
Roszczewski ended the year as an All-Blue Water Area Conference first team pick.
Nolan Roszczewski, Almont.
Roszczewski provided a 43 average for nine holes this spring, good for fourth on the Almont squad and among Tri-City Times All-Area first team honorees.
The sophomore managed an 81 at the Timberwood Golf Course-based Evans Gill Invitational; carded an 84 for ninth medalist honors at the Blue Water Area Conference Tournament hosted by Holly Meadows Golf Course in Capac; supplied a 91 at a Division 3 regional hosted by Hawk Hollow in Bath; provided a 93 at the Orange Green Invitational at Copper Hills Golf Course; plus chipped in a 95 during the Perry-based Dick’s Sporting Goods Invitational hosted by Glenbrier Golf Course.
He also added a 172 over 36 holes on the way to a 44th during the Division 3 state finals at Forest Akers West Golf Course in East Lansing.
Roszczewski completed his second year on Almont’s squad as an All-Blue Water Area Conference first team selection.
Jerry Schurig, Almont.
Schurig averaged 47 per nine-hole round, leaving him fifth on Almont squad and among those who attained Tri-City Times All-Area first team status.
The junior shot an 88 for 15th medalist honors at the Blue Water Area Conference Tournament hosted by Holly Meadows Golf Course in Capac; supplied a 97 during a Division 3 regional contested at Bath’s Hawk Hollow Golf Course; plus added a 99 at the Evans-Gill Invitational in Armada.
He also chipped in an opening round 98 as Almont’s number five golfer during the Division 3 state finals at Forest Akers West Golf Course in East Lansing.
Schurig finished his third year on Almont’s varsity as an All-Blue Water Area Conference honorable mention pick.
Second team– Owen Ypema, Capac; Adam Schaefer, Capac; John Schoen, Capac; Sonny Coscione, Dryden; and Noah Slagle, Dryden.
Honorable mention– Dylan Ledford, Dryden; Owen Gall, Dryden; Matthew Volz, Capac; Jaxon Szlaga, Almont; Jacob Fuller, Almont; and Jacob Buffo, Dryden.
Coach of the Year– For directing Almont to a top Blue Water Area Conference Tournament and league showing; a third at a Division 3 regional hosted by Hawk Hollow Golf Course and at the Armada-based Evans-Gill Invitational; fifths during the Perry-based Dick’s Sporting Goods Invitational at Glenbrier Golf Course and Orange-Green Invitational at Copper Hills in Lakeville as well as two-way tie for 10th-place at the Division 3 state finals hosted by East Lansing’s Forest Akers West Golf Course, Almont’s Mark Bone earns Tri-City Times All-Area Coach of the Year accolades.
