
Almont’s Chase Battani took third in the pole vault last Saturday at the Div. 3 state finals in Kent City.
ALMONT — The Almont boys’ track squad managed six points en route to a seven-way tie for 33rd with Springport, Montrose, Perry, University Liggett, Hartford and Homer last Saturday at the Division 3 state finals.
Kent City is where the action unfolded.
Benzie Central (51 points) paced the field assembled. Pewamo Westphalia (44), Hart (38), Sanford Meridian (36), Ottawa Lake Whiteford (28), North Muskegon (22), Standish Sterling (21) along with Delton Kellogg, Erie Mason and Warren Michigan Collegiate (18 each) rounded out the top-ten teams.
Chase Battani headlined for Almont that day. Battani posted a pole vault clearance of 14 feet, good for third place.
Drew VanDyke registered the next best Almont finish. VanDyke managed a discus toss of 139 feet 6 inches for 10th.
Matthew Bacholzky, long jump, 19 feet 10 3/4 inches; provided Almont with a 14th.
The Almont 1600 relay of Cole Walton, Nolan Maxlow, Wade Szydlowski and Bacholzky pulled up 16th in 3:41.36.
Bacholzky, 400-meter dash, 54.23 seconds; generated a 20th for Almont.
Szydlowski 800 run, 2:12.56; contributed a 24th for Almont.
VanDyke, shot put, 39 feet 3 1/4 inches; added a 25th for Almont.
