
Almont’s Cole Walton (R) looks to overtake a foe at a Div. 3 regional last Saturday in Stockbridge.
ALMONT — The Almont boys’ track team notched a second-place finish last Saturday at a Division 3 regional in Stockbridge.
Charyl Stockwell Academy (131 points) won the team title. They were followed by Almont (102 points), Burton Atherton (80), Stockbridge (66.5), Durand (51), Detroit Voyageur (49), Burton Bendle (46.5), Madison Academy (26), Detroit Community (23), Jalen Rose Leadership Academy (22), Dearborn Advanced Technology (12), Byron (11) along with Pontiac Arts and Tech (seven).
The top-two placewinners in each event plus anyone who equals or bests a state set time, height or distance advances to the Division 3 state finals June 3 in Kent City.
Chase Battani, pole vault, 13 feet; Drew VanDyke, discus, 138 feet; Matthew Bacholzky, long jump, 18 feet 8 1/2 inches; and Wade Syzdlowski, 800 run. 2:09.8; led Almont with firsts.
VanDyke, shot put, 38 feet 3 3/4 inches; Josiah Clark, pole vault, 10 feet; and Bacholzky, 400-meter dash, 53.87 seconds; furnished Almont’s individual event seconds.
The Almont 1600 relay of Cole Walton, Nolan Maxlow, Bacholzky and Szydlowski registered second as well. They were timed in 3:41.8.
The Almont 800-meter relay of Tim Miller, Maxlow, Szydlowski and Bacholzky placed third in 1:38.43.
William Larkin, 3200 run, 11:37.02; collected Almont’s individual event fourths.
The Almont 3200-meter relay of Alex Heiden, Gavin Campbell, Adam SaintOnge and Larkin were fourth in 10:15.5.
Almont’s 400 relay of Brendan Cynowa, Carson Wood, Miller and Walton wound up fifth with a clocking of 47.06 seconds.
Larkin, 1600-meter run, 5:18.92; and Campbell, 3200 run, 12:21.52; added sixths to Almont’s cause.
