Barbara Dewey Laursen of Imlay City, (formerly of the Marlette-Sandusky area) was called home to be with her Lord and Savior on Sunday, May 21, 2023.
She was born May 29, 1934, in Imlay City to Harold and Etta (Stover) Dewey. Barbara graduated from Imlay City High School with the Class of 1952. She married Theodore G (Ted) Laursen of Marlette on June 20, 1952, in the First Baptist Church of Imlay City. Ted preceded her in death on August 13, 2008. Barbara devoted her life to raising and nurturing her four sons. They were her pride and joy. She was an extraordinary mother and grandmother; she was very fun-loving and supportive. Time spent with all her family meant so much to her. Barbara enjoyed being a homemaker, baking, canning and entertaining family and friends with lots of home cooking. She worked for the Marlette Community School as a secretary of internal accounts and a cook-cashier. Barbara worked for R. Grant Wilson, D.C. for several years, then for Active Homes Corporation as a sales representative from which she retired after eleven and a half years. Barbara is a long-time member of the Sandusky First United Methodist Church and also spent time attending the Imlay City United Methodist Church. She has been blessed with a beautiful group of friends in the Sandusky U.M.C., Monday night Bible study, and the Women’s Monday monthly luncheons. Barbara was a former Grey Lady volunteer for the Marlette Hospital, an American Red Cross volunteer, a Cub Scout Leader, and a 4-H Leader. She was also a former member of the Danish Sisterhood. Barbara loved to travel; she treasured the many camping trips out west with Ted and great friends Rex and Maxine Taylor. She also enjoyed her many shopping trips to Frankenmuth and Port Huron with her dear friends from Marlette, Lois Flannigan and Maxine Taylor and enjoyed spending time with classmates.
Barbara is survived by her sons, T. Kent Laursen of Quinlan TX, Kevin (Lisa) Laursen of Dowling, MI, Kresten (Linda G.) of Marlette, and Kurt Laursen of Marlette; grandchildren, Kelly (Jeff) Perales, Rebecca Hart, Anthony Laursen, Stephanie Reed, Tiffany (CJ) Brooks, Toccarra (Doug) Wilkins, Tabithia Laursen, Tristen Laursen, Courtney (Ron) Halbert, Carly Laursen and Ciara Laursen; 15 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Barbara was preceded in death by her parents, Harold and Etta Dewey; brothers, Gordon, Gerald, and Richard; sister Carolann LeSage; daughter-in-law, Carol (Peters) Laursen; and brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Wayne and Arlene Laursen.
In keeping with Barbara’s wishes, arrangements for cremation have been entrusted to Marsh Funeral Chapel.
A Memorial Service to celebrate Barbara’s life will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 31, 2023, at Marsh Funeral Chapel, Marlette. Visitation will be held from 10-11 a.m. at Marsh Funeral Chapel.
In Lieu of flowers, memorials may be donated to Sandusky First United Methodist Church or United Hospice Service of Marlette Regional Hospital.
The burial will take place in Juhl Cemetery, Marlette.
