ALMONT — The Almont varsity softball team (no. 4, Division 3) claimed a first-place finish last Saturday at the Big Cat Classic in Birch Run.

Almont opened tournament action with a convincing 15-0 win against Hillman (no. 6, Division 4).

Devin Johnston (two singles and a triple), Brooklyn Bunch and Grace Koenig (three singles each) plus Kendall Roszczewski and Lauren Webster (two apiece) paced Almont with multiple-hit efforts. The Raiders also had Gabby Carlson (a double) plus Elly Schapman and Lydia LaCavera (a single each) reach the hitting column.

Myah McLean was the winning Almont pitcher. She allowed two hits, struck out five and walked none.

Almont then went to 2-0 with a 10-2 victory over Montrose.

Koenig (three singles and a homer), Johnston (a single, a triple and a homer) plus LaCavera and Bunch (two singles apiece) were Almont’s top offensive threats. They were backed by Roszczewski (a triple) and Schapman (a double).

McLean and Bunch shared the pitching responsibilities for Almont. They gave up four total hits, struck out four and walked one along the way.

Almont then wrapped up their successful day with a 7-2 championship game triumph against Birch Run.

Roszczewski (two singles and a double) and Webster (two singles) posted Almont’s top plate credentials. Bunch, Johnston, Schapman and LaCavera (a single each) supported their performances.

Bunch was the winning Almont pitcher. She allowed four hits, struck out five and walked one en route.

With the results, Almont now stands at 12-0 overall.
