Doug Sollman, age 88, of Imlay City, Michigan died Sunday, April 30, 2023 at home. Douglas Edward Sollman was born May 7, 1934 in Detroit, MI. He is the son of the late John Ernest and the late Retha (McNary) Sollman. He attended Lum schools and then graduated from Imlay City High School, Class of 1952. Doug lived his entire life in the Imlay City and Lum areas. He married Jennie Lucille Spencer on January 22, 1954 in Lum, Michigan.
He was the self-employed owner and operator of Sollman Heating & Cooling, Plumbing & HVAC. He felt that he started in the profession at the age 12 years old, while working with his dad. Doug taught HVAC as a para-professional at the Vo-Tech School in Attica for 8 years (1987– 1995). He had been the sexton at the Goodland Township Cemetery for several year in the early 1980s. In the last few years he decided that there was a need for a gravemarker cleaning service. So he put together a trailer and equipment to provide that service in the local cemeteries. Doug could think out and engineer almost any problem that he came across. He was a long-time member of the Lapeer Free Methodist Church.
Doug is survived by: his daughter, Stacey (Gary) Barns of Goodrich, MI; his sons, Vern (Betty Gotto) Sollman of Imlay City, MI, Brad Sollman of Imlay City, MI and Greg (June) Sollman of Friendship, TN; and a sister, Jauneta (Burton) Kincaid of Standish, MI. He is also survived by grandchildren, Jennifer (Trevor) Johnson, Sarah (Chad) Abbey, Maribeth (Greg) Boggs, Stacey Hutchinson, and Del (Linda) Ralston; great-grandchildren, Haydn, Avery, Cal, Mason, Carson, Dominic, Payton, Caden, Camryn, Raegan, Dillon, Travis, Gabby, and Annaliese. Doug was preceded in death by his wife, Jennie Sollman; daughter-in-law, Susan Sollman; grandson, David Barns; brother, John Sollman; and sister, Lorraine O’Dell.
The funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, May 4, 2023 at Crossroads Baptist Church, 6835 Weyer Road, Imlay City, MI. Burial will follow in Arcadia Township Cemetery, Lum, MI.
The family will be available for visiting hours from 2–5 and 6–8 p.m. Wednesday, May 3 at Muir Brothers Funeral Home Of Imlay City, 225 N. Main Street, Imlay City, MI and from 10–11 a.m. Thursday, May 4 at Crossroads Baptist Church, 6835 Weyer Road, Imlay City, MI.
