Herbert L. Sawgle, 82, lifelong resident of Dryden, passed away Saturday, April 14, 2023 at McLaren Lapeer Hospital. He was born July 3, 1940 in Dryden, the son of Herbert M. and Emma L. (Dimick) Sawgle. Herb graduated from Dryden High School and served with the U.S. Army. He married Sharon Hilliker and they had 62 years together. He worked for Winzer Corporation as a sales rep up until March of this year. Herb spent many years serving on the Dryden Village Board, was an active member of the Dryden Veterans Club and was honored to be Grand Marshal in the Dryden Memorial Day Parade. He was also an avid sports fan playing in every sport he could from high school through adulthood.
He is survived by his wife, Sharon; two sons, Tracy (Jan) Sawgle of White Lake and Trevor (Vicky) Sawgle of Oxford; grandchildren, Lyndsey (Dackory) Dowdle, Tanner (fiancé Jamie) Sawgle, Trent (girlfriend Cheryl) Sawgle; great-grandson, Easton Dowdle; sibling, John (Theresa) Sawgle; sisters-in-law, Joyce Sawgle and Diane Sawgle; brother-in-law, Dennis Hilliker; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Troy Sawgle; sisters, Judy Hosler and Susan Conn; and brothers, Richard Sawgle and Tom Sawgle.
A Celebration of Life and Military Honors Memorial Service will be held Saturday, April 22, 2023 at 1 p.m. at the Dryden Vets Memorial Building.
