Shirley A. (nee Lockwood) Dietlin, age 88, passed away peacefully April 4 surrounded by her beloved family. She was born September 23, 1934 at the family home in Almont, the daughter of Harry R. and Mildred (Warner) Lockwood and delivered by Dr. Burley. She graduated from Almont High School in 1952 where she was active in the theater department and had the lead role in the musical Clementine. While in high school she worked at Honey Lee hamburger and soda shop. Upon graduation, she was a telephone operator in Almont. She married her husband, Duane Dietlin, on July 4, 1953 at St. Clement Catholic Church, who preceded her in death in 2001. She was a member of VFW Ladies Auxiliary # 2052. She was an avid reader and enjoyed doing word searches. Shirley was very close to her high school classmates, often meeting for coffee weekly and enjoyed hosting them each summer for picnics. She enjoyed listening to oldies and 1980s country music. She also enjoyed traveling to Florida with her daughters during the winter months. Most of all, she enjoyed spending time with her beloved family.
She is survived by her beloved children, Michael Dietlin of Almont, Annette (David) Lock of Romeo, Kenneth (Sharon) Dietlin of Dothan, AL, Debra (Dale) Wagner of Cleveland, TN, Elizabeth (Ronald) Kammer of Richmond, Kimberlee (Robert) Tomes of Shelby Twp.; grandchildren, Douglas (Emily) Lock, Justin (Kelli) Dietlin, Kate (Craig) Petke, Brian (Ineke) Dietlin, Melissa Wagner, Lillian (Aaron) Sweeten, Holly Wagner, and Paul (Lili) Kozlowski; and nine great-grandchildren.
The Dietlin family would like to acknowledge the kind staff of Guardian Angel Hospice and Angelica’s place. They all gave great comfort to Shirley, making her feel at home and loved.
She was predeceased by her husband, Duane C. Dietlin; son, Alan; siblings, Kenneth Lockwood, Ralph Lockwood, Marilou Lecluyse, Donna Johnson and Dora Hill.
The funeral service was held Monday, April 10, 2023.
