Jack H. Culp Sr., age 87, of Imlay City, MI, passed away on Sunday, March 12, 2023 at McLaren Lapeer Region Hospital of Lapeer, MI surrounded by his loving family. Jack Henry Culp was born May 16, 1935 in Elwood, IN. He is the son of the late William and the late Pearl (Drake) Culp. Jack grew up and attended school in Elwood, IN. He proudly served four years in the United States Marine Corp and 17 years in the United States Navy on eight different ships all over the world. He married Betty Lou Halliwill-Slack on May 5, 1978 in Gaylord, MI.
After returning from the service, he went to work at Standard Products (Cooper Tire) for 19 years and retired in 1997. He was a member of the FRA (Fleet Reserve Associates), Tucson Arizona Eagles, Tucson Arizona American Legion, and the Imlay City Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW).
Jack is survived by his wife of 44 years, Betty Culp of Imlay City, MI; sons, Jack H. (Angie) Culp Jr. of Gaylord, MI and Jefferey Culp of Petoskey, MI; his stepchildren, Patricia (Dan) Burroughs of Gaylord, MI, Robert Slack of Dryden, MI, Mary Arends of Muskegon, MI, and James (Julie) Slack of Imlay City, MI; 14 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. He was one of nine children and has two sisters still living, Marilyn and Beverly.
Jack was preceded in death by his parents, William and Pearl Culp; six siblings; stepson, Donald Slack; and his great-grandchild, Beatrice Culp.
A memorial service will be held at a later date. Jack’s cremated remains will be buried at Great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly, MI.
Funeral arrangements for Jack’s cremation were entrusted to Muir Brothers Funeral Home of Imlay City, 225 N. Main Street, Imlay City, MI.
