ALMONT — Almont bowler Matthew Redmond made it to the quarterfinal round of match play when he saw his tournament path wind down at the Michigan High School Athletic Association Division 3 Singles State Championship last Saturday.

Jax 60, in Jackson, is where the action unfolded.

Redmond posted games of 203, 222, 264, 201, 157 and 210 on the way to a 1,262 total for his six-game qualifying block. That left him as the third seed entering match play.

It was there he started things off with a 366-289 win against Sanford Meridian’s Maxx Burdick.

He then bowed out with a 374-281 quarterfinal loss to Cheboygan’s Cole Swanberg.

Wade Szydlowski and Hunter Ross also competed for Almont at the Division 3 Singles State Championship. Szydlowski posted a 1,016 total en route to a 51st and Ross managed a 977 output, good for a two-way tie for 55th.
