CAPAC — In July 2021, graduates from the 100th graduating class from Capac High School held their 40th class reunion. All in attendance enjoyed it so much, they decided to have a golf outing for classmates to come together and make new memories. Eventually the outing turned into an alumni charity golf tournament called the “Weapons of Grass Destruction Charity Golf Scramble.” It was held in July 2022 and brought together Capac classmates, families, friends, and the community to raise money for a scholarship for a graduating senior from Capac High School starting in May 2023. Twenty-five teams participated and twenty-eight businesses/individuals sponsored the event.

The alumni golf scramble was very successful. Organizers decided to start a nonprofit alumni organization called “Capac Classmates Promoting Future Adults” (CCPFA) to further grow the Alumni and its support to students and local communities and the classmates will lead by example through efforts to support future world leaders by providing financial opportunities for technical or skill-based experiences.

“The CCPFA Career Scholarship” will be the organization’s first effort to give back to the community by supporting students at Capac High School who may choose a post-secondary education that is not limited to a community college or university. Candidates may be, but are not limited to, academically talented individuals. Rather, this career scholarship program is designed to be inclusive and support all students choosing post-secondary education especially those who may not otherwise qualify for academic or athletic scholarships but whose effort is profound. Scholarship money can be used for education related expenses, certification, and other associated fees at a trade school, community college, university program or other occupational certification program. Students applying to this scholarship should be able to demonstrate a strong work ethic and a spirit of community-mindedness; improvement in grades will be rewarded as will outstanding community service and a commitment to self-improvement. The scholarship application process will include an online application and interview. Applications will be accepted from February 1, 2023, through March 31, 2023. Candidates will be chosen and notified to participate in the interview phase in April. A recipient will then be selected. and his/her name will be announced at the awards ceremony in May. The winner will volunteer at the 2nd Annual Weapons of Grass Destruction Charity Golf Scramble to be held on June 10, 2023, and the After-Gathering where he/she will be introduced as the winner. Capac alumni, family, friends, and the community are invited to participate in the scramble.
