Robert George Porter, age 79, of Lapeer, formerly of Capac, passed away on November 24, 2022. He was born in Capac, MI on November 29, 1942, to (the late) George and Viola Porter.
Bob was born and raised in Capac, MI. After graduating from Capac High School, Bob continued to work on the family farm and at Porter’s Hardware store while obtaining an associate degree from Port Huron Community College. Bob was introduced to the love of his life, Kate, by her brother Jim. They were married on September 12, 1964, and moved to Lapeer to start their family. Bob was a lifelong member of St. John’s Lutheran church of Capac and follower of Christ.
After 30 years of stellar service at GM, Bob retired in 1994. He was then able to spend more time doing the things he loved. Bob took great pride in his gardening, woodworking and crafting projects. He was always “on call” for his children to help with household repairs and projects.
Bob greatly enjoyed music and dance. He loved attending concerts, plays, recitals and sporting events, especially if they involved his children and grandchildren.
Bob enjoyed anything that involved getting together with family and friends. Along with his wife, Kate, he spent many tireless hours preparing for and hosting family holidays, birthday parties, and Fourth of July celebrations for many years at their home. Their home is where everyone gathered for fun, love and laughter.
Bob was a former member of the Lapeer Jaycees and Hadley Lions. He loved nature and took much care to promote and protect it. He enjoyed antique tractors, golf, bowling, camping and traveling. He was extremely grateful to celebrate his 25th and 50th wedding anniversaries with family and friends where he took much pride in sharing the accomplishment of a wonderful marriage to Kathleen and the family that they raised together.
Bob was a very generous, humble and loving man who will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Bob is survived by his wife of 58 years, Kathleen Elizabeth Porter; daughters, Stephanie (William) Stokes and Shannon (Dave) Hughes; son, Scott (Caroline) Porter; grandchildren, Brett (Kim) Stokes, Erin (fiancé, Ray) Stokes, Adam (Courtney) Stokes, Collin Stokes, Porter Hughes, Avery Hughes, Scotty Porter, and Isabella Porter; great-grandchildren, Treasure Cowger, Levi Botkins, Ella Dolman, and Colton Stokes; brother, Ray (Alma) Porter; sister, Marian Porter; also many cousins, nieces and nephews.
