Board of Education could decide at Nov. 7 meeting
ALMONT — Almont Board of Education members are expected to finalize plans for a May 2, 2023 school bond proposal during a special meeting on Monday, Nov. 7.
On Monday, Oct. 24, Almont Schools Supt. Dr. William Kalmar presented initial findings from a community survey designed to gauge support for such a proposal.
Kalmar said representatives from Barton Mallow Construction firm will be present at the Nov. 7 meeting to further discuss the proposal.
Among the items up for discussion are possible expansion at the Orchard Primary School, funds for school safety upgrades, and how to balance future spending between athletics and the fine arts.
“We were extremely pleased with the community’s participation in these surveys,” Kalmar said. “We will take this feedback very seriously in the development of the bond proposal.
“The grant total has yet to be finalized,” he continued. “Much of that discussion will happen at the special meeting.
“We do know we can raise $72 million without raising taxes,” he said. “But we are not looking for such a high total.”
