LAPEER COUNTY — ’Tis the season for tuning up the voices for the holidays.
The Lapeer County Concert Choir will resume Monday night rehearsals on Sept. 12 in preparation for their December 2022 Christmas concerts.
Rehearsals will take place at Trinity United Methodist Church in Lapeer on Monday evenings from 7-9 p.m.
Because extra time is necessary for music distribution, registration, and voice placement, doors will open promptly at 6 p.m. on Sept. 12. This season marks the choir’s 54th year in existence.
Founded in 1968 by local high school music director Jerry Pakkala, the community choir has seen much growth in variety and difficulty of the pieces over the years. Current Director Dr. Eddie Howell has led the choir since 2016, and will be at the podium again this year for the upcoming December concerts to feature “Gloria,” a John Rutter composition by the same name for choir and brass ensemble.
Other traditional Christmas selections will include “Follow That Star,” “Sleigh Ride” and the “Hallelujah Chorus,””among others.
Auditions on tap
The community choir is open to all singers who are interested in choral music.
Anyone interested in joining is welcome to come to the first rehearsal, try out the music, and then make a final decision about joining for the season.
