Robert Patterson Smith, 73, of Capac, passed away Tuesday, August 9, 2022, in the comfort of his home.
He was born February 7, 1949, in Pontiac, MI, the son of the late Leland and Ruth (Patterson) Smith.
His marriage to Dorothy O’Connor was June 8, 1968, at St. Nicholas Catholic Church, Capac.
Robert was a 1967 graduate of Capac High School where he met his high school sweetheart, Dorothy. Bob worked for Greenia’s Capac before working for Ford Distribution Richmond New Holland. He then worked for Department of Public Works in Capac before his retirement in 2014. In his younger years, he loved participating in tractor pulls and continued to help fix family and friends’ tractors over the years. Bob was a volunteer firefighter for the Memphis Fire Department and was a volunteer for the Capac Fire Department. He enjoyed deer hunting and being outside.
Surviving in addition to his wife, Dorothy; are five children and spouses, Michael (Kimberly) of Capac, Sharon Lancaster of Capac, Gregory of Capac, Bonnie (Jay) Halsey of Virginia, and Jeffrey (Denise) of Maine; four grandchildren, David, Thomas, Catherine and Caleb; four great-grandchildren, Xavior, Elaina, Zoey and Able; siblings, Margie (Harlon) Reed of Nevada, Richard (Rose) Smith of Delaware; as well as many nieces, nephews and friends.
He was preceded in death by brothers, Larry and W. George Smith; and sister, Kathleen Reeves.
The family honors the memory of Robert and invites you to visit and share memories Wednesday, August 17, 2022, from 2 to 8 p.m. at Kaatz Funeral Directors, Capac.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday with 10 a.m. visiting. Rev. Lisa Clark, pastor of Capac United Methodist Church, will officiate. Burial will be in Capac Cemetery, Mussey Township.
Memorials are suggested to the Mussey Township Fire Department.
