On June 26, Capac High School held their annual School Reunion for anyone that has graduated from Capac High School at the Holly Meadows Golf Course. Sixty alumni were in attendance along with 11 guests for the buffet meal that was enjoyed by all. Sadly we lost 26 classmates and two teachers, that we know of, since the last reunion.
Capac Community Schools Superintendent Jeff Terpenning came and addressed the crowd, letting us know what was happening in our schools and answering questions. We then gave out some Capac High School shirts, glasses and bags as door prizes that Mr. Terpenning donated to a few lucky alumni present.
Chairwoman Martha (Brancheau) Niemczura did the challenging job of getting the word out via email, Facebook alumni website and regular mail of the event. A big thank you to the Capac Schools Superintendent for providing the postage and printing of the almost 500 invitations that went out. Martha sent invitations to 111 email addresses and is in search of many more addresses of classes since 1972 to present. If you know of any, please email her at capacalumni@gmail.com she would greatly appreciate it.
Thank you to Capac Alum class of 1967 John Grzyb, President of The Capac Historical Society, for letting us borrow all the yearbooks to display for the classes that came to the reunion. Anyone wanting to donate Capac High School (CHS) memorabilia, let Martha know, we will add it to our collection.
Eugene Vanness was the oldest person, from the class of 1943. He was given a CHS lanyard for coming. We had classes represented from every year 1943-1986. The Class of 1972’s Celeste (Jubenville) Shepherd and JoAnne (Bolday) Stewart both got Gold Chocolates for celebrating 50 years graduated. Deborah (Wheelihan) Dasher was given a CHS glass with candies in it for celebrating 40 years graduated, as did Barbara (Wheelihan) Bourgeois for being the youngest alumni in attendance from the class of 1986. The farthest person to come was Celeste (Jubenville) Shepherd, class of 1972 from Florida. She received a bottle of water to keep hydrated and a Readers Digest to read on her trip home. We also had alumni travel from Arizona, South Carolina and from all over Michigan.
Gag gifts were given to Leonard McCurly, class of 1950, who’s always a joker. He got some clean jokes to tell. Slyvia (Granc) Diver, class of 1957; Marilyn (Burian) Kohler and Virginia (Granc) Pionk, class of 1962; and Cynthia Ann (Jubenville) Berns, class of 1978, were all CHS cheerleaders so they were given each a blue and gold pompom and led us in the school Fight Song.
The winner of the pretzel guess jar was Sarah (Sonner) Loridon. And the winner of the cheese puffs guess jar was Nadine (Schmaltz) Gillette. The class of 1971 was the largest group of alumni attending so they were each treated to a movie and dinner, which was a variety of CDs and a box of macaroni and cheese.
Martha and I would like to thank everyone for coming, and all those who helped us. We hope you enjoyed your day and we look forward to seeing more alumni on June 25, 2023.
The Alumni reunion is always held the fourth Sunday in June.
