MUSSEY TWP. — A 32 year-old Mussey Township woman died as the result of a two-vehicle crash on Tuesday afternoon.
According to Sgt. Steve Surman of the St. Clair County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to the crash at Donald and Capac roads, just south of the village limits, around 1:45 p.m. on July 26.
Surman said that the woman was behind the wheel of a 2006 Pontiac Montana van, traveling east on Donald Road, when the vehicle failed to stop for the stopmarsign at Capac Road, striking a 2018 Dodge Promaster van that was southbound on Capac Road.
“After the collision, both vehicles overturned, sending the 2018 Dodge into a power line pole and the 2006 Pontiac into a field. The 32 year-old driver of the Pontiac van was pronounced deceased at the scene,” Surman said.
A 29 year-old passenger in the Pontiac Montana van suffered non-life threatening injuries and was treated and released.
The driver of the Dodge Promaster van, a 60 year-old male from St. Clair Shores, was transported to the hospital for non-life threatening injuries. Deputies report that he was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.
The investigation indicates the occupants of the Montana van were not wearing seatbelts at that time.
The accident resulted in a power outage in the Capac area. The loss of electricity did result in a temporary loss of water pressure within the village’s water supply, officials noted in a post on Facebook, but that had been restored by Wednesday afternoon.
Those assisting on scene of the crash were the St. Clair County Sheriff’s Office Accident Investigation Team, the Capac Police Department, the Yale Police Department, Tri-Hospital EMS, the Mussey Township Fire Department and DTE Energy.
