TRI-CITY AREA — From the first pitch until the final out, these athletes set the standard for excellence with their play out on the field.
Here is a look at who earned a spot on The Tri-City Times All-Area softball lineup and the numbers they amassed en route:
Myah McLean, Almont,
Position: Pitcher
Throws: Righthanded
Record: McLean put together a 22-5 mark, including a 1.45 ERA, this spring.
In 154 1/3 innings of work, McLean allowed 135 hits, struck out 141 and issued 25 walks.
Batting average: McLean wound up 15th out of Tri-City Times All-Area first team honorees and eighth among Almont players with a .316 average.
She had eight singles and four doubles in 38 at bats.
The junior also contributed 12 RBI and two runs scored to Almont’s cause.
Postseason honors: She completed her first season on Almont’s varsity as an All-Blue Water Area Conference, All-District and All-Region selection and was a Division 3 All-State honorable mention choice.
Madalyn Roberson, Capac.
Position: Pitcher
Record: Roberson posted a 16-4 mark during the 2022 campaign.
She also registered 58 strikeouts and walked 32.
Batting average: Roberson managed a .516 batting average, thanks to 24 singles, 16 doubles, one triple and six homers in 91 at bats.
That ranked her first on the Capac squad and second among Tri-City Times All-Area honorees.
The junior also managed a .612 on-base percentage, provided 51 RBI, scored 47 runs and stole four bases.
This was her second year on Capac’s varsity.
Postseason honors: Roberson ended the 2022 campaign as an All-Greater Thumb Conference East first team selection and All-District choice.
Becca Weiss, Dryden.
Position: Pitcher
Throws: Righthanded
Record: She posted a 5-5 record, including 86 strikeouts, this spring.
Batting average: Weiss pulled up second on the Dryden squad and seventh among Tri-City Times All-Area first team honorees with a .441 average.
She generated 13 singles and two doubles in 34 at bats.
The senior also contributed a .635 on base percentage, 25 runs and 18 walks and six RBI to Dryden’s cause.
Postseason honors: Weiss concluded her third season on Dryden’s varsity as an All-District first team selection and an All-North Central Thumb League second team choice.
Avery Grondin, Dryden.
Grondin ranked first on the Dryden squad and fifth among Tri-City Times All-Area first team honorees with a .475 average this spring.
She had 10 singles, five doubles. two triples and two home runs (both of the over the fence variety) in 40 at bats.
The senior also contributed 30 RBI, six walks, 16 runs and seven walks to Dryden’s cause.
This was her third year on Dryden’s varsity.
Postseason honors: Grondin closed out the season an All-North Central Thumb League Stars Division first team pick and All-District selection.
Brook Ross, Imlay City.
Position: Catcher
Batting average: Ross ranked tied for fourth on the Imlay City squad and tied for 13th among Tri-City Times All-Area first team honorees with a .341 average
She had 15 singles, 10 doubles, one triple and five home runs in 91 at bats.
The junior also contributed a .423 on base percentage, 20 RBI, 14 runs, 11 walks and was hit by a pitch once.
Postseason honors: Ross ended the 2022 campaign as an All-Blue Water Area Conference honorable mention choice.
Devin Johnston, Almont.
Position: Third base
Batting average: Johnston placed first on the Almont squad and among Tri-City Times All-Area first team honorees with a .522 average.
She collected 36 singles, 11 doubles, eight triples and four home runs in 113 at bats.
The junior also provided Almont with 46 runs scored and 43 RBI.
Postseason honors: She wrapped up her second season on Almont’s varsity as an All-Blue Water Area Conference, All-District and All-Region first team pick.
Jaya Forti, Imlay City.
Position: Third base/shortstop.
Batting average: Forti ranked second on the Imlay City squad and third among Tri-City Times All-Area first team honorees with a .480 average.
She supplied 35 singles, four doubles and eight triples in 98 at bats.
The senior also contributed 34 runs, 15 RBI, seven walks and was hit by a pitch four times.
This was her third year on Imlay City’s varsity.
Postseason honors: Forti ended the season as an All-Blue Water Area Conference first team selection.
Skielar Tesnow, Capac.
Position: Third base
Batting average: Tesnow ranked fourth on the Capac squad and eighth among Tri-City Times All-Area first team honorees with a .423 average.
She generated 24 singles, 11 doubles, three triples and three home runs in 97 at bats.
The sophomore also sported a .508 on base percentage, scored 42 runs, registered 34 RBI and stole 10 bases.
This was her second year on Capac’s varsity.
Postseason honors: Tesnow wrapped up the season an All-District pick and an All-Greater Thumb Conference East second team selection.
Natalie Stone, Imlay City.
Position: Third base
Batting average: Stone placed tied for fourth on the Imlay City squad and tied for 13th among Tri-City Times All-Area first team honorees with a .341 average.
She furnished 18 singles, nine doubles, one triple and three homers in 91 at bats.
The junior also provided Imlay City with a .406 on base percentage, 30 RBI, 20 runs, 18 walks and was hit by a pitch four times.
This was her second year on Imlay City’s varsity.
Postseason honors: Stone ended the 2022 campaign as an All-Blue Water Area Conference first team choice.
Grace Koenig, Almont.
Position: Shortstop
Batting average: Koenig finished with a .475 average, thanks to 34 singles, 17 doubles, four triples and three home runs in 122 at bats.
That left her second on the Almont squad and fourth among Tri-City Times All-Area first team honorees.
The junior also contributed 46 runs and 34 RBI to Almont’s cause.
Postseason honors: Koenig competed her second season on Almont’s varsity as an All-Blue Water Area Conference, All-District and All-Region selection and was named to the honorable mention portion of the Division 3 All-State lineup.
Lexa Forti, Imlay City.
Position: Shortstop
Batting average: Forti ranked third on the Imlay City squad and 11th among Tri-City Times All-Area first team honorees with a .376 average.
She supplied 33 singles, two doubles, two triples and a home run in 101 at bats.
The sophomore also contributed a .398 on base percentage, 31 runs, 30 RBI, five walks and was hit by a pitch three times.
This was her second year on Imlay City’s varsity.
Postseason honors: Forti wrapped up the 2022 campaign as an All-Blue Water Area Conference honorable mention selection.
Cerenity Helzer, Capac.
Position: First base
Helzer posted a .363 average, thanks to 26 singles, five doubles, four triples and two homers in 102 at bats.
That ranked her fifth on the Capac squad and 12th among Tri-City Times All-Area first team honorees.
The senior also contributed a .424 on base percentage, 39 runs, 33 RBI and six stolen bases to Capac’s cause.
This was her third year on Capac’s varsity.
Postseason honors: Helzer finished the season as All-Greater Thumb Conference East first team selection and All-District choice.
Lydia LaCavera, Almont.
Position: Utility
Batting average: LaCavera wound up sixth on the Almont squad and ninth among Tri-City Times All-Area first team honorees with a .388 average.
She had 31 singles, six doubles and three triples in 103 at bats.
The sophomore also contributed 27 runs and 24 RBI to Capac’s cause.
Postseason honors: She completed her second season on Almont’s varsity as an All-District choice and an All-Blue Water Area Conference honorable mention pick.
Annabelle Schneider, Capac.
Position: Leftfield
Batting average: Schneider furnished a .462 average, thanks to 41 singles and two doubles in 93 at bats.
That ranked her second on the Capac squad and sixth among Tri-City Times All-Area first team honorees.
The sophomore also provided a .549 on base percentage, 48 runs scored, 43 stolen bases and 17 RBI.
This was her first year on Capac’s varsity.
Postseason honors: Schneider finished the season as an All-District and All-Greater Thumb Conference East first team selection.
Grace Johnson, Almont.
Position: Centerfield
Batting average: Johnson ranked fourth on the Almont squad and eighth among Tri-City Times All-Area first team honorees with a .398 average.
She provided 37 singles and two doubles in 98 at bats.
The senior also contributed 43 runs and nine RBI to Almont’s cause.
Postseason honors: Johnson finished her third year on Almont’s varsity as an All-District and All-Region choice as well as an All-Blue Water Area Conference honorable mention choice.
Second team- Isabella Theisen, catcher/second base, Almont; Kendall Roszczewski, catcher, Almont; Chloe Schocke, catcher, Capac; Kylie Tennant, DP/Leftfield, Almont; Elly Schapman, first base, Almont; Julia Schaefer, centerfield, Capac; Chloe Bruman, outfield, Imlay City.
Honorable mention- Jordyn Wheeler, shortstop, Capac; and Chloe Moran, rightfield, Capac.
Coach of the Year- For directing Almont to a 28-7 overall and 10-4 Blue Water Area Conference mark (good enough for a two-way tie for third with North Branch), Raider Coach Erik Johnson earns Tri-City Times All-Area Coach of the Year accolades.
Kevin Kissane
Kevin Kissane has been covering high school sports for the Tri-City Times since 1985. When not standing on a field or court with his camera and notepad, he enjoys golf, travel and family. Kevin is a 1980 graduate of Capac High School, and is also a grad of St. Clair Community College and earned a degree in journalism from Central Michigan University.
